This was true way back in the year 2000 when I took a class on the topic. It's sad that some groups are still pushing the proven lie of 77% of what men make because once you control for education and work you find that women working the same job with the same education make ~98% of what a man with the same qualifications make. So the pay gap really is only 2% not 23%. That 2% is easily explained away via men being more vocal about asking for raises compared to women.

That makes sense if you assume sexism has no effect on the type of education, level of experience, or occupation of women.
