The bronze (actually many are brass) plaques have wonderful depictions of the warriors of Benin :
but the art of the Oba's palace complex is alas scattered all over Europe and the U.S., although the British Museum does have some magnificent holdings.
My favourite image is this one :

Anyway. I've always enjoyed African art, even from when I was at school. The Benin plaques were an easy way in, because unlike some fetish, mask or sculptural pieces they're relatively representational and recognisable. Now that I'm bigger I can afford to buy Dogon granary doors and Akamba masks.
