  • When was the last time funding has been reduced for something like this? Serious question.

I don't think they need new studies for funding, although it can't hurt. But they have a real battle in the universities to do what they want to.

Which is a shame because to me, 1 in 10 is still bad enough to require action.

I guess I'm sensitive to that because I see it happen every day in our industry and it always irritates me.
Especially when it's a government survey.
They didn't "cook the definition". If a woman is too drunk to move you can't have your way with her.

      • incapacitated does not necessarily mean too drunk to move. That's my issue. If the survey had specifically said you had unwanted sex while too drunk to move, I bet the results would be different.
And no one here saying is that it is ok for someone to have their way with someone too drunk to move. So please don't claim anyone here is.

        • What interpretation of "incapacitated" would make it acceptable to touch someone sexually when they are "incapacitated" and not giving consent?

          edit:
Incapacitation was defined on the survey as a student being:
“.... unable to consent or stop what was happening because you were passed out, asleep or incapacitated due to drugs or alcohol”
Are you saying it's sometimes okay to touch someone sexually when they are unable to consent or stop what is happening?

          • Even a child could tell that he's not.

            • Gee I specifically post
And no one here saying is that it is ok for someone to have their way with someone too drunk to move. So please don't claim anyone here is.
And in the next post you say
Are you saying it's sometimes okay to touch someone sexually when they are unable to consent or stop what is happening?
If you're not going to read, it's useless to discuss anything with you.
But just in case. NO IT"S NOT OK.

              my issues is with
incapacitated due to drugs or alcohol
I believe this should have been either left off or better defined.
Does being tipsy and making a a decision you regret in the morning count?
Does "it seemed like a good idea at the time" count?
There's a lot of wiggle room here where some of them I wouldn't consider rape so to include those in may be a touch dishonest,
It comes down to the individual person and when you're designing a survey that shouldn't be the case. It should be crystal clear.
I don't think it is and the question is, was it just bad design or intentional.
Having dealt with the government in similar cases I've personally seen cases where it was intentional.
This has made me suspicious and making me question it here.

No, those things don't count as being "unable to consent or stop what was happening". They're clearly not referring to situations where a woman can easily walk away. And you didn't just claim it was ambiguous. YOU ACCUSED THE PEOPLE WHO CONDUCTED THE STUDY OF BEING DELIBERATELY DISHONEST, *******. YOUR TOP PRIORITY WHEN A STUDY ON SEXUAL ASSAULT COMES OUT IS TO ATTACK THE PEOPLE WHO DID THE STUDY. WHAT THE ****?

                • Gee, I'm in the industry. What do you expect?
What you think is clear, is not necessarily so.
And thanks to you, I was able to read the details and guess what? It pretty much confirms my accusation.

I am not surprised and stand by my accusation.

                    • Basically giblets argument is that it's a study on sexual assault so they couldn't have lied, all men are rapists. We have to deny them civil rights to protect women. Right?

                        • Feel free to show where I was apologizing for rape. I was discussing the nuances of the survey since I do it for a living and see this type of bending all the time.

But since you seem to not have read any of my posts, I can understand your ignorance. Now go find a thread where you actually have some knowledge of the subject.

                          • They asked people if anyone did anything to them while they were incapacitated by drugs. And then you claimed that people who answered in the affirmative weren't really sexually assaulted. You're full of **** and I don't care about your appeals to authority.
