The cause of death has not yet been determined, but a law enforcement official tells ABC News heroin was found at the scene and a hypodermic needle was sticking out of Hoffman's arm. The New York Police Department is continuing to investigate.

Of all the Oscar level type actors, Philip Seymour Hoffman annoyed me the most. I never thought he was any good. I think he played a bit part in Twister. That was what he shoulda been. He's like Jack Black... deserves to be the annoying sidekick type that always dies. But instead, managed to actually star in things.

I didn't wish him dead or anything.

Oh well. Another famous person bites the dust. Maybe they'll be some discussion about addiction and some idiot conservative can explain how it, among other things, is a choice.

Wait how is using drugs not a choice?

Like uh did someone mug him in the street back whenever he got addicted and say "USE HEROIN OR I'LL SHOOT YOU" then shove a needle in his arm?

You can argue about relapse for sure, but not becoming an addict in the first place is definitely under your control. It's not like it's some big secret that opiates are crazy addictive and people overdose and die on them all the time.

Well said. Self involved, dead, a great actor, but still dead. Never again hold his wife, play with his kids nor will he be at their school functions or graduations. Enjoyed his films but...
