    **** you.

I've already got Civ IV on my desktop for when I want to play proper Civ.

Steam Workshop offers a huge number of mods for Civ 5. Using them is easy because download is automatic and you manage your mods from the games start screen. However if you're going to use steam workshop mods at this time you'd probably have to buy Gods and Kings and Brave New World.

It's too much to ask for a game with an AI that can do military tactics I guess but civ5 is fun.

The AI is too dumb to make it interesting.
At least in Civ IV, the AI wasn't smart, but how smart do you have to be to put a ton of units in a stack and then attack.
              Keep on Civin'

Really sad part about Civ V is that there is no way I can imagine Civ VI being any good either. Civ III was great in comparison, it was interesting for longer, and you could still make a great game out of it.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me also.

And that's the bottom line, isn't it? The AI just can't handle 1UPT and that was the whole reason Sid put stacking in Civ1 but they forgot that truth and made a huge mistake in Civ5.

I'm not sure why you'd want IUPT anyway. If you want tactical combat, introduce a damned tactical minimap for battles, MOM-style. Projecting tactical battles onto a strategic map is goofy, introduces endless idiosyncracies, and smacks of laziness.

Idk. If I had time for multiplayer it would be good I think.

Civ V is the first Civ game I played all the way through. Got a cultural victory with Ethiopia.

I don't really like Civ IV and think that Civ V with expansions plus some UI mods is a better experience. Though I also thought Call to Power 2 was the best Civ game before Civ V.

I did like CTP2's combined arms feature and how making stacks too big caused units to get penalties. THAT is how Civ5 should have handled things but the lead designer was a **** and screwed it all up because he just loved Panzer General so much.

Well, I finished my first Civ V game with a diplomatic victory. Hmm. It's rather easy to do once you control all of the city-states.

That said, the combat is definitely something that takes getting used to — almost to the point where it's not an option until the so-called Information Age with its XCOM and Giant Death Robot and Modern Armor units.

I'm going to try another run through, this time on the biggest possible Earth map.
