I took it again and there were different questions. This time it has Ft. Worth, Lubbock and Arlington. I believe it.

Well that would be a long shot, yes.

It is interesting though - I am wondering though how I got this similarity to Jewtown, USA , considering I have never actually been to the states, or have any Jewish-American friends offline. This must only mean that there is a reverse process - a strong Jewish-Russian influence on NY region English.

Hawaii is, from my understanding, one the most "un-american" states and has a strong international blend anyway, so that must be it.

If I had to guess, and this is entirely a stab in the dark, it probably has something to do with there isn't a huge Jewish population in the world and the US has almost as many Jewish people as Israel itself so a very large number of Jewish people who speak English come from the US. These Jewish-Americans also love to go to Israel both for religious reasons and to show support for the Jewish state. So you probably get a lot of Jewish-American influences on the English spoken in Israel. NY state also has not only a large Jewish population but a large Russian population and since you are an Israeli Jew of Russia extraction the program just said "Er, Russian and Jewish language traits. Where in the US is that common? Yonkers!" So even though you're from a totally different country on a totally different continent it just found the closest fit in the US which happens to be a place with lots of Russian Jews.

Hell, if anything you'd figure Israeli English would be closer to British English due to this:

Maybe the cultural influence of Jewish Americans over powered that though.

It's probably random. I got NYC, Yonkers and Providence.

            I'm not Jewish.

I got Honolulu, some place in southern wisconsin, and some place in new england (accidentally closed the tab).

The question that most linked me to Honolulu was fireflies.

I bet it's Jewish influences on NYC dialect.

I wonder if the Scandinavians took it, if they'd get Minnesota. Italians might get NYC-Jersey-Philly. Etc.

I think there certainly are immigrant influences on dialects, if not in vocabulary, than at least in phonetics and prosody. It is important to also remember that a city like NYC is home to dozens of different accents. I'm not familiar with NYC, but I know in Philly, accents can vary a bit along ethnic and geographical lines. It's like the core accent is still there but there's slight differences.

Tests might identify similarities with dialect spoken by NYC Jews and put it as a NYC accent, even if specific pronunciations and words are not pervasive in NYC, except among Jews.
