It's always the tin shacks which go first.

That said sustained winds of 190 mph would probably take off the roof of even braced buildings with roof straps on it. The 50 ft waves are just the ****ty topping on the cake.

We are far enough south that the storm wasnt too strong here. Power is out and might be for a while as it comes in from leyte to the north. They were directly in the path of the storm.

I live on Pohnpei in Micronesia, at least for another two weeks and then I'm going home.

This area of the Western Pacific generates the typhoons. Pohnpei is one of the wettest places on earth. There is an island near here called Kosrae which has mountains shaped like a sleeping lady - traditionally she is thought to have someting to do with it.

The typhoons start out as tropical storms and when they start spinning on the prevailing easterly winds they turn into typhoons and slam into the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan. This was a big one. It rained here very heavily and there were some high winds before it started spinning away. Although it rains so much here we hardly noticed. A big tree came down and brought down our power lines at home and blocked our road but we didn't actually relate it to the typhoon, which wasn't named yet.

                            So it's your fault?

                            I figured.
