Do you actually know anything about this case? Do you know that at the time there was a huge amount of speculation about a prominent Tory being involved in pedophilia and sexual abuse of kids at a care home? Then in the middle of that feverish speculation Mrs Bercow decided to tweet..

This would be the Lord McAlpine who has since been found completely innocent of any involvement but who will now have to spend the rest of his life with the shadow of the accusation hanging over him.

If you libel someone it doesn't matter a damn whether you use Twitter, Facebook or anything else to do so, and it's about time people started taking responsibility for the things they say publicly. It's not ok to destroy someones reputation and get away with it because it was 'just a tweet'.

    • Anyone who thinks that tweet is libel is a moron.
To us, it is the BEAST.

And British people believe everything they read on the internet, so this was enough to make people decide he's a pedophile, right?

They do have an unusually high number of people who deny climate change.

Given that she's the wife of another prominent Tory and could safely be assumed to have inside knowledge, yes that's more than enough to make a lot of people decide that.

So you think it's fine to imply that someone has committed a string of horrific and sickening crimes as long as you don't actually spell that out? Yet another reason why I'm happy there's an ocean separating our countries.

Very true, an entire 1 percentage point higher than the US no less.

Yes. Implications aren't crimes. If she tweating "Lord FancyPants rapes deaf kids", then maybe. But even then, she has no credibility on the matter. Her statement is merely her opinion. And people shouldn't be punished for having opinions. Only repressive nations do that.

And believe me, I wish I could put a rocket under your inbred island scum nation and shoot it into the sun. An ocean isn't enough separation.

                    Wow. That's ****ing stupid.

Real computer scientists don't code for the web.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

People have openly called Ben Kenobi a pedophile on these forums. If he wasn't a pedophile would this be considered libel?

Including your own you mean? Except in yours you don't fine them, you kidnap them and ship them off to be tortured in secret bases around the world before imprisoning them without charge for a decade?

I'm sure the whole nation will be deeply wounded.

Yes of course it is. Unless they could convince a court that as he is not known here by his real name that he retains anonymity. That would actually be quite difficult given that he's used his real name here before.

... yeah... with help from you

And if the positions were reversed, the UK would probably be even worse with regards to human rights abuses. You're just butthurt that you aren't a superpower capable of inflicting that much worldwide repression.
