I'm not a coder, I'm the lead. I haven't coded for a few years at work.Originally posted by Sava View PostCoding some app that happens to be used in education doesn't make you an expert at anything involving education.
That means I'm regularly in contact with schools and districts to see how they use the software, where it is effective, where it needs work, and then design features to match the prevailing pedagogy. It doesn't make me an expert (I work with several PhDs who are, literally, experts in the field). But it does mean I'm more of an authority on it than someone like HC is."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

What happens when this guy turns out to be a highly respected professor amongst the faculty (despite his eccentricity) and he mentions to his friends and colleagues that some mouthy student is trying to humiliate him on social media? You think your 'excellent relationship' with the faculty matters a damn to them in comparison to a man they may have spent years working with? Possibly even more damaging is simply the reputation you could get as a student who thinks it's funny to try and humiliate a faculty member. Even if they all hate him and think he's a nutjob, the idea of a student embarrassing a faculty member would still paint a target on your head.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostAsher, your worst case scenario is some stupid truther who makes robotic slinkies at the same university as me might say mean things about me because I made fun of his ridiculous belief in a conspiracy theory on the internet, a belief that he very publicly advertises and is widely regarded as pants-on-head retarded. And that somehow this could hurt me despite my excellent relationship with virtually all of the faculty who've ever met me face-to-face. Okay. I appreciate your concern. I'm not worried.
Seriously dude, it was a really stupid thing to do, and if you have any sense you'll delete it before it blows back on you (if it hasn't already).

That's just because your country has insane libel laws.Originally posted by MOBIUSSally Bercow, a Z-list celeb, stuck her oar in recently when a high profile person here was accused of abusing children and all she said on twitter was:
‘Why is Lord McAlpine trending? *Innocent face*’
That tweet cost her £15K compensation to him, plus a 'six figure' legal bill...
There is nothing to be gained by unnecessarily sticking your head up above the parapet. Clearly you've done it to look cool with your peers, when all you've really done is risk unwanted attention from people that could potentially cause you problems in the future...

It's worth mentioning that Sarah Bercow is the wife of a prominent Tory politician (Speaker of the House), so that tweet was judged to be based on her having inside knowledge of the events and putting the innocent mans name into the public sphere.Originally posted by Sava View PostAs if I needed another reason to never go to the UK
Also the UK is ****ing awesome.

Nevertheless, the tweet itself didn't say anything about that scandal.Originally posted by kentonio View PostIt's worth mentioning that Sarah Bercow is the wife of a prominent Tory politician (Speaker of the House), so that tweet was judged to be based on her having inside knowledge of the events and putting the innocent mans name into the public sphere.
Wrong. Also the UK is ****ing awesome.
At minimum, freedom of speech is necessary to be in the "awesome" category. To us, it is the BEAST.

I can confidently say that the expected negative repercussions are so close to zero as makes no difference.Originally posted by Asher View PostIt's not just the picture, it's the commentary.
Come on, Kuci, you have to admit it's a stupid thing for him to do.
Moreover, you are ignoring that he engaged in the LAUDABLE act of shaming people who deserve to be shamed. If this gets publicity and embarrasses the professor, good! This really isn't much different from the professor being a neo-Nazi or a Communist.
