Wouldn't it have been nice to put through a reasonable bill rather than the ramrodded piece of **** we got?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    • what the government is doing is saying that you are NO LONGER ALLOWED TO OWN CAMRYS, NOW EVERYONE HAS TO HAVE A MERCEDES. If you can't afford a car now, tough! We're just protecting you from making the stupid decision to buy a car you can afford, even if it isn't as good as we think you deserve!
Not only that but the government is fining you unless you buy a Mercedes! Look at the lease rates. You could own a top end vehicle for that amount of money per month.

If the government can force you to buy healthcare - in what sense is anything you own private? Why not have a 'bail-in', where the government helps itself to your savings?

      • Why not have the government take a portion of your income? Think of the possibilities!

No-one's ending up with no insurance, some people are just being made to pay slightly more to ensure that they have healthcare that actually covers them, rather than a crappy make believe safety blanket that does nothing.

What is truly stupid about this though is that conservatives should be the ones most insistent about everyone being covered! If these people without insurance end up in serious accidents or with major illnesses and don't have cover, the rest of you end up paying for it. You whine like little ****ing *****es about things like foodstamps and unemployment benefits, but apparently its fine for poor folks to land you with their medical bills?

OTOH Kentonio's a smug brit idiot who, apparently by the latest post, totally buys into the philosophy that the government should prevent people from having something at all if it isn't as good as they think it should be. Kentonio, people can't afford the new insurance policies. What about that do you not understand? You're raising the price of a good, forcing people to pay more for it, and just expecting them to be able to. You keep calling yourself a conservative. You're not. This philosophy is as leftist as can be.

You are not 'raising the price of a good' you're insisting that the coverage people have is actually of use to them when they suffer the healthcare issues that actually affect people. The prices are not outside peoples reach, but some people are being pushed to spend that extra because it's damn important, and if they don't then everyone else pays for them.

You conveniently skipped my question, if you're a conservative then why are you fine paying the medical bills of people who could afford to pay for their own insurance?

You can clearly judge the effects of a vast national program after about a month which included major rollout issues.

Aren't people exempt from the mandate if insurance would cost more than a certain percentage of their income?

                        • No, they're only exempt if they are eligible for medicaid.

                          • DAMN IT I should have known Fox Business would get this wrong:
Excused from the requirement are incarcerated individuals, undocumented immigrants, members of American Indian tribes and congregants of religious groups opposed to health insurance. Those with incomes so low that they are not required to file a federal income tax return -- roughly $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for families -- and those who would have to pay more than 8% of their annual income for health insurance also will not be penalized for lack of coverage.

Well we are nearing the deadline when the people who lost insurance due to Obamacare are due to be punished by Obamacare. I'm placing my bets on them not being able to fix the Federal exchanges in time.

Those from 133% to 150% of the poverty level will be subsidized such that their premium costs will be 3% to 4% of income. In 2013, the subsidy would apply for incomes up to $45,960 for an individual or $94,200 for a family of four; consumers can choose to receive their tax credits in advance, and the exchange will send the money directly to the insurer every month. Small businesses will also be eligible for subsidies.
