If my wife had told me that she wouldn't want to continue in that situation, I wouldn't tell her I don't believe you, please write it down and get it notarized. I would say yes dear, I'll make sure your wishes are fulfilled. I would be in intense emotional distress holding off the decision as long as he did. Under those circumstances I would have ended it much sooner based on my wife's wishes. I have told my wife that I wouldn't want to survive under those circumstances (and I didn't do it in writing because I trust her to abide by my wishes) That's what real marriages are. And yes, I would fight off her Family also. I would honor her wishes. That's how much I love her.

You're assuming that he lied about that. How can you know that? You're assuming that since he moved on with his life that he must be a lying scumbag. He may be a lying scumbag, but as with almost everything else, it's not your place to pass judgment.
