You and the GOP lost and it's time you manned up and took it like a man instead of this eternal crying and lashing out at innocent Americans who just want to get on with their jobs and pay their bills in peace.
      Yeah, it's law! PROHIBITION FOREVER!

Good luck with getting a constitutional amendment overturning Obamacare.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Funnily enough, the Republican approach to healthcare is very similar to politicians attitudes to prohibition back then. They were happy to deny it to others while continuing to have it for themselves.

I would be interested in seeing President "for the little guy" Obama explain why the American people don't deserve the same break he gave to Big Business back in the Summer. Bonus points if you can get Pelosi or Reid to defend that as well.

So you agree with the demand to remove the exemption for Congressional staffers?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Yes. And we should all support Republicans because they are the party that wants to stick it to Big Business!

You do realize that for people who can't afford health care, we have medicaid right? Obamacare is a middle-class entitlement. In case you're wondering, middle-class people by definition don't need help paying for basic ****.

It's actually a wealth transfer from the young to the old of historic proportions. Why do you think they are so desperate to have the young sign up for exchanges?

                    • So why are they too chicken **** to do anything about it?
It's all about the money. If they get too vocal in opposition of this, campaign money/support from the national organization will be denied them making their reelection more difficult.
Of course this doesn't make them any less chicken *****.

Eligiblity is categorical -- that is, to enroll you must be a member of a category defined by statute; some of these categories include low-income children below a certain age, pregnant women, parents of Medicaid-eligible children who meet certain income requirements, and low-income seniors. The details of how each category is defined varies from state to state.

                            • Congressmen are voting as their constituents desire...many of these people were elected to do just what they are doing (on both sides for that matter). Democracy is the process of give and take. Obamacare was passed by a single party with little care given to what the other party thought. These are the consequences in a democracy. If the constituencies of those opposed to Obamacare begin to see that the shutdown is more damaging than Obamacare would be, then we will see votes begin to shift...once again democracy in action. This is the process working as designed and is not "dysfunctional" as the majority party are trying to portray it. In the end, pressure from the people will bring compromise of some type and some will lose and some will gain.

Democracy isn't always easy, but I still have faith that it will work out in the end.

Whining about people voting as those that they represent would have them do is nothing but posturing. This applies to both sides. I don't believe anyone wants their representatives to NOT represent their desires...so here we are. Let it play out and make your voices heard to your elected officials...I can guarantee they are listening right now.

On a side note...kentonio, the Supreme Court did not "authorize" Obamacare...they merely said that it was Constitutional. Perhaps that is just symantics, but if not, then it is a big distinction.

Sorry but this is hogwash. Or to put it slightly more politely, it's what they would love people to think. There are several centuries of examples of the US government functioning, and this latest tactic of holding the country hostage over existing law is a new and repulsive one. The system was never 'designed' to work this way. If this keeps happening, what exactly do you think is going to stop the Democrats doing exactly the same thing next time the roles are reversed? Perpetual gridlock, endless shutdowns of government, debt defaults, gee isn't that something to look forward to in the future?
