    Canadian Born Patriot dominates senate in 4th longest filibuster ever!

    As Sen. Ted Cruz gives a long speech, Treasury gets short on funding

    The Treasury Department said Wednesday that it has less than a month’s worth of room to maneuver before it hits the debt limit, dropping yet another major fiscal deadline in the lap of a Congress already stymied over the annual spending bills.


    Mr. Cruz, though, said it is certain Democrats will be able to strip the defunding provision with a majority vote later in the process, so the only chance to exert influence is early on, when it will take a 60-vote threshold to even proceed with action.

    Mr. Paul’s filibuster earlier this year, which delayed a confirmation vote on the CIA director’s nomination, lasted just over 12 hours and 50 minutes — a mark Mr. Cruz crossed just after 3:30 in the morning.

    But where Mr. Paul began before noon and lasted into the night, Mr. Cruz went on from afternoon through night and into the morning, aided in the wee hours only by Mr. Lee, who regularly popped up on the floor to ask questions.

    At 5:30 a.m., there were still four members of the public in the viewing gallery — all of them men, each apparently here alone — watching Mr. Cruz’s effort.

    The Texas Republican had built himself a sort of nest at his desk, in the back corner of the GOP’s side of the chamber, with a wristwatch to one side, his iPhone on another side and sheafs of papers all around.

        It was a fake filibuster too as Cruz negotiated with Harry Reid over how long he would be allowed to filibuster before they would cut off his time. That's why it ended exactly at noon.

        So a fake filibuster for a fake controversy. All this was was Cruz trying to up his profile for 2016 and building his fund raising list and it was fake from the beginning. Just a show for dullards with zero chance of doing anything legislatively. I mean the guy is filibustering the Republicans' own bill, which he says he supports, just so he can get his face on TV. It's a crock.

                Endgame?: House GOP May Attach Obamacare Delay To Government Shutdown Bill

                It would have been better if they had gone with this tactic to begin with IMO. It would have put the President and the Democratic party on the defensive defending a Damn the Torpedoes! Full speed ahead! attitude over an unpopular law the President has by executive whim already delayed for select sections of the populace.

                        It was amusing to see Cruz asking how the bill was any good if the Unions themselves had requested a waiver. In any case, he did an excellent job of speechifying. The closest thing to conservative porn.

                            You guys are so butthurt over this it's hilarious. The House has voted, what, 40 times in a fruitless effort?
