Okay, my prof from Cisco 1 and 2 came to the rescue; cdp can give you the ip addresses of adjacent switches, you just need to append "detail" to the "show cdp neighbor" command. If I can do that, I can telnet to them, presumptively. It's not a sure thing, but if I do that I won't need to dick around with MAC table logic games, at least. Awesomeness!

I love how in Catholic themed threads Ben tells people that if they're not Catholic they shouldn't participate since they really don't know, but when it comes to give advice on a topic that he is unfamiliar with, he claims it's the process and not the knowledge. Typical
1, there is an answer. If you can't find it, it's because you haven't found the answer not that the test is broken/rigged, whatever. Elok finally found the answer by talking to reliable authorities. Which, was exactly my advice to him. "Ask people who did pass the answer to the question." Which he's just done and got his answer.
2, Elok's problem (since he was so close to passing), is one of confidence not competency. That puts him in my realm, since, I teach and I've tutored for many years. I've worked with other students just like Elok (not on this topic), but on other topics.
3, I am very confident that Elok will successfully pass the test and go on to have a career in this field. This is something that Elok himself doubted, arguing that he wanted to 'cut his losses'. I advised giving it another shot, and he seems to have taken this advice.
So yeah, maybe I don't know networks. But I do know tests and preparation. Hell I have to make tests often enough!Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

The topic of the thread is Cisco Certification.
I'm not exactly sure why you have difficulty parsing the argument as referring to post secondary.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Was scheduled to take the test today. Knew how to solve the problems, feeling confident and ready. Got a crippling stomach bug at 4am this morning. Now curled up with a hot bean-bag thingy waiting for the next bout of gut-clenching fun. Grr.

Yeah. Especially since you can't cancel within twenty-four hours. No refund, no reschedule, no taking the test within five days, which means I either learn a lot of new stuff or go CCENT. But there's no rush, at this point. Going to let my funds recover before deciding what to do about this.

I would also start thinking about load balancing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_ba...28computing%29 As you move up the complexity ladder, pay scales rise accordingly.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

For the moment, I'm just going to concentrate on passing the new version of the CCNA. Just ordered the study guide; we'll see how effectively I can cram in the new stuff without formal instruction, etc. Looks like there's a lot of new content, mostly related to IPv6. Which is good, since the old curriculum barely explained IPv6 at all and it's probably going to be important soon. Also good: I checked Cisco's page on the new exam, and the word "VTP" does not appear once. I'll wait for the book to arrive to be certain, but it appears I may be able to erase that stupid gilded turd of a protocol from my neurons.
