As for the no medical reason, planned parenthood requires trans-vaginal ultrasounds unless the pregnancy is late enough to see the fetus on a trans-abdominal ultrasound...so evidently the largest abortion provider in the country considers it a medical necessity.

Because laws should be effing LAWS, doofus. It's moronic to have two types of statutes on the books -- those we actually enforce, and those we trust the government to turn a blind eye to. It's not turning a blind eye to them. They're on the books but they are no longer laws once they are struck down as unconstitutional. If the Virginia General Assembly were in session all year round, I'd agree with you, but they barely have enough time to pass a budget for the amount of time they are in Richmond.

Well, they get paid something like 17k a year for their trouble. Remember they're only in the state house for 3 months, 4 on even-numbered years. That's really not a whole lot of time.

The state constitution specifies that the General Assembly shall meet annually, and its regular session is a maximum of 60 days long in even-numbered years and 45 days long in odd-numbered years, unless extended by a two-thirds vote of both houses.

So less than I thought.

Longer isn't necessarily better. Illinois' Legislative session tends to be about 75 days, and they pack everything they can manage to get done in the last two days they are there. If they get anything done at all.
