Yes. The standards are actually higher now than anytime in the past decade. We started with only 3 half-sized training platoons and after ~32% attrition, graduated only 85 candidates, about 20 of which were Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program Marines who have to complete their degrees before they become lieutenants. The physical ability of our group was extraordinary. On our final PFT, the slowest 3-mile was sub-21 minutes.

They were a lot smarter about the PT this time. We had little attrition for injury; most drops were performance-based. Where before the PT schedule would have things like a 3 mile run in boots followed by a run of the endurance course the next day, the PT now is better formulated to minimize the once very common ankle and leg injuries. We went into the final weeks with only 2 candidates on light duty which is very very low.

The PT did not get softer by any means. It was just a matter of not having back-to-back-to-back runs and ruck marches like they used to do, having some better splits (such as a run then the next day, o-course with upper body exercises instead of the previous standby run every day).

Tightening of standards and freezing of new OCS commissions is the reason Alby had to go in as a reservist. Barring another war in the near future it's unlikely he'll get put on active duty.
