Bypassing the whole "why did they do it" and going on to the whole if someone was going to do something like this why use your own home, a place where they'll obviously check first when they identify you? I mean WTF? If you're going to be a criminal then at least be a smart criminal and have a place which isn't on your driver's license and which they can't easily associate you with.
