Actually if Kim launches a unilateral strike I wouldn't be surprised if those Chinese tanks didn't enter North Korea and forceably remove him. The Chinese aren't stupid, they know very well what would happen if the world's trade doors slammed shut on them.

Phalanx is not very effective against supersonic missiles like Sunburn. I'm not sure how effective C-RAM is. Reading about it now.

The North Koreans have reportedly told the Russians and Chinese to remove all unnecessary people from their embassies. That is a little worrying but again is likely just their usual sabre rattling.

This does seem to be going a bit beyond their usual sabre rattling.

Really not sure what they are expecting to gain at this point. China is annoyed enough to consider alternatives to the North Korea problem. One option China might consider (provided North Korea gave them an opening to do it) is to invade North Korea and replace the leadership with someone more amenable. They'd have to have to right opportunity to do it or all of China's neighbors will freak out. But I can easily see North Korea suddenly going back to the status quo with the statement, "We've made our point" relatively soon.

Foreign embassies in the North Korean capital Pyongyang have played down warnings from Kim Jong-un's government over their safety.

Oh, and both China and Russia pretty much ignored NK's claim that they should evacuate their embassies.

NK better watch out. If they piss everyone off, Russia/US/China will just carve up the country and reduce it to rubble.

Working in a Pyongyang embassy must be weird.

I say we tell SK to attack them with "Gangnam Style" on infinite repeat at 130+ dB.

Music doth soothe the savage beast.

Plus, if we can arrange mega jumbotron screens, seeing video in color will probably get Kim to surrender.

They say it's very effective but we all probably remember how they gushed over the Patriot missles during Desert Storm only to reveal years later that their efficacy was overrated.

The patriot missiles are great. During Desert Storm they suffered from a very subtle computer glitch involving interrupts and system clocks, which caused clock drift and resulted in guidance systems making miscalculations. That has since been corrected and the system works perfectly.

Incidentally, this glitch is discussed in almost every systems class here at CMU at some point or another. Professors like to use it to point out how even with thorough testing, very subtle things can escape notice.

Overrated or overstated? At any rate, I think they were effective enough for the situation. Why break out state-of-the-art weaponry when not necessary?
And you know the U.S. has advanced weapons that haven't been unveiled.

A spearman can beat a tank. Everybody knows that.

Does North Korea have spearmen? That is the really important question.
Yes. That would soon stop those Yankistan tanks right in their tracks.

I would used the new 15,000 bomb. Drop them about a mile apart at the same time. When the burst, they suck in all the air for a mile or 2 in all direction for a few millisecond and then the air expand at about 800 MPH in all direction. The North Korea soldier ears would explode. Their body would explode.
