So is there a way to turn NK into rubble without SK getting destroyed by artillery?

Say NK sinks a SK ship or something... what's the US response?

And why does Kim Jong Fat Kid hate Austin, Texas?
To us, it is the BEAST.

Why do we care is SK gets destroyed? We'd just be killing two birds with one stone.

North Korean artillery would be bad but not catastrophic.

If they attack, South Korea will detonate the bridges crossing into the South--they've had pre-placed explosives on them for years--and also collapse rocks onto all the mountain roads, which have also had pre-placed explosives for years. Then the Norks will have to cross a two-mile minefield, during which the USN, USAF and ROKAF will have total air superiority and artillery superiority. They don't have enough food and their troops aren't well enough equipped for long marches, and their tanks, which are 50s- and 60s-vintage, will get chewed up by ours and the South Korean's. There's no way this can end well for the North.

Also, US counterbattery fire is so advanced at this point that we would likely start pummeling Nork artillery before the first shells even landed on Seoul. They'd get a few volleys off then our aircraft and counterartillery batteries would blow the ****ing **** out of them.

The only thing that's likely to happen is more chest thumping by NK. China is close to losing patience totally with them. China has aspirations, and NK is a hindrance.
If NK pursues their line of thought, their people will further pay a price for their leadership's insanity.

Probably he is thinking of Fort Hood, which is a nuclear weapons storage facility among other things. Austin is about 60 miles from Fort Hood

The Paladin will do the job but it would be nice if we had actually built the Crusader.

Millions was always OTT, but as the article you linked to points out, you could be talking about tens of thousands of casualties. The idea of a mass artillery bombardment of a hugely urbanized city is frankly terrifying, and would make anything else we've seen in recent years look pretty inconsequential by comparison. We're talking skyscrapers collapsing, entire areas leveled and burning and absolute and total panic. This is WW2 level stuff.

HC sounds like a kid who has never been to war before. The reality is most NK artillery is placed in hardened bunkers so it won't be as easy to pick off as he thinks. BTW NK won't do anything big or meaningful and instead this is just the new guy chest thumping for domestic consumption in order for him to build up a domestic reputation as being strong against their enemies. Also China won't tolerate a war and since NK gets all of their oil and much of their food from China they have no choice but to do what China tells them to do.

Most NK artillery has about a minute-of-Seoul accuracy, at least among those guns that shoot at all. It can't shoot while inside hardened bunkers. The time it takes for a piece to come out of a bunker, shoot off its rounds, and return to its bunker is probably less than the time it takes to get off counter-battery fire.

Yes, they can shoot. They put a little slit to shoot out of at pre-sighted targets and then fire away. That means it is 90%+ pretected in hardened bunkers and to knock them out you either have to blow through the hardened exterior or you have to make a 1 in a million shot through the tiny slit they're firing out of. It's the same sort of "technology" castle builders used in the middle ages with arrow slits so it is a very low tech but effective solution.

I doubt those bunkers could survive 2k lb JDAMs.
