North Carolina GOP try and piss on the constitution
The legislation was filed in response to a lawsuit to stop county commissioners in Rowan County from opening meetings with a Christian prayer, wral.com reported.

You're certainly free to do so, but you're wrong. You might disagree with Imran's opinions on things (certainly there is lots of room for disagreement on constitutional issues, hence the Supreme Court) but I've never seen reason to believe he didn't know the facts behind those opinions. Realistically Imran and MtG are the only two people I've seen here (who post frequently) who clearly know the Constitution well; not a surprise, I suppose, given their profession.
edit: And by know the Constitution well, I mean the caselaw around the Constitution. It's easy for anyone to have opinion on how the Constitution should be applied, but if you don't have a good understanding of the caselaw, you can't really cogently discuss it, since the caselaw is more important than the words themselves. It would be like discussing the Torah - sure, go ahead and interpret whatever you want, but if you haven't read the thousands of years of rabbinical opinions and interpretations, you might as well be talking to yourself.

Praying can be, if it's mandated by a government board. Acts implicitly establishing religion depend on the context - Roy Moore's ten commandments in the Alabama Supreme Court rotunda are an example - what was ironic is all these cracker idiots going up there and prostrating themselves around it and prayin' away, forgetting that one on there about idolatry. Since the 10 commandments statue was by itself the centerpiece in the rotunda of the state's highest court, that kinda created a problem. Take the same thing, arrange it with other religious and non-religious lawgiving examples like Hammurabi's code and the Code of Justinian, the Magna Carta, etc., now you have your ten commandments in the courthouse without a problem.
IMO, it's really a "so-what?" sort of thing, if it's just a routine prayer. I've been to dozens of public agency board and public meetings that started with a prayer, the pledge of allegiance, or both. It's really not worth rocking the boat over, unless it's coupled with other acts that show a substantial bias.
