That would have been great if he had known that the kid:
      1.) Wasn't armed
      2.) Was drunk
      3.) Was a kid

Might have been possible if it:
1.) Had not been the middle of the night
2.) The kid had not come in through a window

Very sad situation. My bet is that no body regrets more (with the exception of the kids family) more than the guy who shot him.

if he regrets it so much, he would have taken the time to identify the threat (or lackthereof)

regret is just something psychos tell people they feel so everyone doesn't figure out they are psycho

When you run around drunk at 2AM there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of possible deadly accidents. This one happened to involve something politically sensitive. If he got hit by a car, or fell off a roof, or drowned in a pool, there would be no controversy, despite those all being roughly equivalent.
I don't know the details of the shooting, and pass no judgement on the need or negligence of the fatal shooting. But to compare it to a traffic accident is stupid unless the drunk teenager walked into the line of fire of a shooting range (or other location where shots were being fired regardless of his presence)

Corrected. Those would be the rough equivalent. Shooting someone isn't a passive act no matter the circumstances.

Good point. HC's examples were not exactly equivalent the way he worded them.
