Why couldn't the home owner just show the gun to the guy, and point it without shooting to hold the guy on the spot and then clear things up?
That would have been great if he had known that the kid:
1.) Wasn't armed
2.) Was drunk
3.) Was a kid
Might have been possible if it:
1.) Had not been the middle of the night
2.) The kid had not come in through a window
Very sad situation. My bet is that no body regrets more (with the exception of the kids family) more than the guy who shot him.

3) Had not ignored a warning shot from the homeowner.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Drivers have a responsibility to always avoid collisions, regardless of fault, and defensive shooters have a responsibility to avoid accidents such as this, but they cannot be considered culpable absent some sort of negligence, nor should they be.
When you run around drunk at 2AM there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of possible deadly accidents. This one happened to involve something politically sensitive. If he got hit by a car, or fell off a roof, or drowned in a pool, there would be no controversy, despite those all being roughly equivalent.
I don't know the details of the shooting, and pass no judgement on the need or negligence of the fatal shooting. But to compare it to a traffic accident is stupid unless the drunk teenager walked into the line of fire of a shooting range (or other location where shots were being fired regardless of his presence)
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
If he got intentionally run over by a car, or pushed off a roof, or was held under water until he drowned in a pool, there would be no controversy, despite those all being roughly equivalent.
Corrected. Those would be the rough equivalent. Shooting someone isn't a passive act no matter the circumstances.
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

2- the number of ex-Marines who have just, y'know, shot people.
?
Charles Whitman killed 14 from the University of Texas Bell Tower. Before that, he killed his wife. Eddie Ray Routh makes for another two deaths. I thought Mark Essex might be an ex-Marine, but he was ex-Navy....
