I personally can't wait until we're living in times where everything is decided by firearms and the population is divided into the quick and the dead, again.

When I got out of college and moved back to the bay area in 1978, my car was a FIAT 131. Luckily it had a pretty big trunk, since I had milkcartons of spare parts and milk cartons of tools. One night it chose to break down at 1:45 am just barely past the end of the bay bridge, on the West Oakland side (not like the SF side was a whole lot better. So off to the side of the road I go, up goes the hood, and the trunk full of tools and parts comes out, and Tony's 24 hour auto repair is in business. First tool out of the tool box, laid out nicely across the radiator, is my vintage S&W model 29-1 with the 6-1/2" barrel. About 30 minutes later, an Oakland cop comes by, pulls up beside me, and asks if I need assistance. I told him I was almost done, and pointed in the general direction of the S&W, making damn sure that I first stepped well away from it (neither he nor his partner had seen it) and said no, i've got it covered. The cop looked at me, asked me if I had a permit for that (he hadn't asked for ID, else he would have seen I was still 18) and I flat out told him "I live in San Francisco, my girlfriend is in the east bay and we both work late, so I'm coming across in this FIAT in the middle of the night all the time. Would you be caught out here at 2 am without a piece? He just laughed and told me to be careful and took off.

The UK has got **** neighborhoods and towns too, but the US has plenty of 'em with more than enough to spare.

          ALERT THE MEDIA
what's that? like one legitimate defense case for every 10,000 murders?
To us, it is the BEAST.

That would imply there are less than two legitimate defense cases per year, nationwide.

I feel frightened with this obviously dangerous Marine walking the streets. How about you?
For once in a long time, you posted something good/positive.

This is an example of how an armed man can save another person's life, or prevent a crime, without using lethal force.

Obviously he was a HERO - this Marine killed the shooter before he could kill more people.

CHARDON, Ohio - Wearing a T-shirt with "killer" written on it, a teenager cursed and gestured obscenely as he was given three life sentences Tuesday for shooting to death three students in an Ohio school cafeteria.

T.J. Lane, 18, had pleaded guilty last month in the February 2012 shooting. Investigators have said he admitted to the shooting but said he didn't know why he did it.

Before the case went to adult court last year, a juvenile court judge ruled that Lane was mentally competent to stand trial despite evidence he suffers from hallucinations, psychosis and fantasies.

After Lane came into the courtroom, he unbuttoned his blue dress shirt to reveal the T-shirt reading "killer," which the prosecutor noted was similar to the one he wore during the shooting.

At one point, he suddenly swiveled around in his chair toward the gallery where his family members and those of the slain teenagers were sitting.

"The hand that pulled the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory," he said, then cursed at and raised his middle finger toward the victims' relatives.

One of Lane's defence attorneys, Ian Friedman, said he was caught off-guard by the comments. The defence had signalled earlier that Lane wouldn't speak in court.

Prosecutors say Lane took a .22-calibre pistol and a knife to the school and fired 10 shots at a group of students in the cafeteria. Daniel Parmertor and Demetrius Hewlin, both 16, and Russell King Jr., 17, were killed.
Now that is a great American quote.

                          Another success story.

The Star's foreign desk covers the best stories from the around the globe, updated throughout the day.

Even still, the death of 16-year-old Caleb Gordley, a well-loved high school student from Virginia, stands out.

                          Tragically.

Although grounded by his parents Saturday night for failing to clean his room, Caleb decided to sneak out to a party anyway.

To return on early Sunday, he had to sneak back in.

But he had been drinking – and got the wrong house.

He was shot to death by a neighbour at 2:30 a.m.

The houses in the subdivision in suburban Loudoun County are strikingly similar and difficult to distinguish from behind. Caleb’s friends had driven him home and helped him over a back fence. Then, he climbed through an unlocked window and proceeded up the carpeted staircase that led – he thought – to his bedroom.

But his entry had triggered a burglar alarm and, as he mounted the darkened staircase, he met his neighbour, who had grabbed a gun and was making his way down.

“Caleb and his friend hopped the fence into the wrong backyard,” his father Shawn explained later on Twitter. His son, he said, had “staggered up the staircase which is identical to mine.”

Caleb was declared dead at the scene.

No charges have yet been laid, and reports suggest that none will. The metro pages of the Washington Post report that the law in Virginia appears to give “wide latitude” to people who fear for their safety.

Caleb was known as a ‘life of the party’ kid who loved to rap – he called himself “Prince George” – and play varsity basketball, football and baseball.

“Everyone loved being around Caleb and felt better when around him,” his coaches Jermaine Walker and Mike Koscinski said in tribute.

But Caleb wasn’t the only one to be shot in gun-rich America over the weekend.

In Calumet, Ill. 15-year-old Ashaya Miller died while visiting at a friend’s when gunfire burst through the kitchen window.

In Chicago, a 3-year-old boy is struggling for his life after he was shot in the stomach at a relative’s home in circumstances police have yet to explain.

And in Oklahoma, a gun enthusiast shot himself to death at the H & H Gun Range in Oklahoma.City.

According to Slate’s gun-death tracker, more people have died in America since the Dec. 14, 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, than died in the 9/11 attacks.

Some 2,793 Americans have died as a result of gun violence since Sandy Hook, while 2,752 perished in the 9/11 attacks.

if it's any consolation, i support the idea that anyone possessing a gun should be treated as an enemy combatant and have a hellfire missile dropped on them

Nope, been too busy to pay attention to most threads.

If this is a copycat thread of that, then that's a pretty epic fail on DD's behalf to disrespect the dead.
