don't be an idiot. Try reading the other thread. It's a pretty open and shut case. Someone climbs in your window at 2am and sets off your burglar alarm, doesn't retreat after a warning shot, dies--turns out to be a drunk teenager. There is absolutely no reason that this implies there is a policy problem with respect to guns. Tragic, yes, but it's basically the same as any other drunken accident. Alcohol is to blame, not guns.

You're an idiot. Gribbler posed a helpful analogy. If a drunk teenager darts into the middle of a freeway and gets hit by a sober driver, is the teenager to blame or the driver? HINT: THE TEENAGER. Did the alcohol kill the teenager or the car? Well the car caused the injury, but clearly it's the alcohol that is responsible.Originally posted by MrFun View PostI don't know .... I wonder if you'll say that if you hit a drunk teenager with your car on a grade-separated highway at 2am.Originally posted by MrFun View PostThe driver, for his lack of defensive driving skills.Graffiti in a public toilet

Drivers have a responsibility to always avoid collisions, regardless of fault, and defensive shooters have a responsibility to avoid accidents such as this, but they cannot be considered culpable absent some sort of negligence, nor should they be.
When you run around drunk at 2AM there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of possible deadly accidents. This one happened to involve something politically sensitive. If he got hit by a car, or fell off a roof, or drowned in a pool, there would be no controversy, despite those all being roughly equivalent. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

What makes this post so idiotic is the implication that the shooter had no reason to believe the intruder was anything more dangerous than a drunk teenager. Frankly, if someone breaks one of my windows in the middle of the night and enters my house, "drunk teenager" is not going to be very high on my list of possible reasons, particularly if said intruder neglects to retreat after a verbal warning and a warning shot.Originally posted by Asher View PostYeah, a bumbling drunk kid tripping over himself coming up the stairs. No, not always. I think in a lot of situations, a crook or drunk person will be scared ****less just at the sight of a gun pointing at them, that it would not take lethal force to deescalate the situation.Originally posted by Sava View Postbetter to shoot firstA lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

That would have been great if he had known that the kid:Originally posted by MrFun View PostWhy couldn't the home owner just show the gun to the guy, and point it without shooting to hold the guy on the spot and then clear things up?
1.) Wasn't armed
2.) Was drunk
3.) Was a kid
Might have been possible if it:
1.) Had not been the middle of the night
2.) The kid had not come in through a window
Very sad situation. My bet is that no body regrets more (with the exception of the kids family) more than the guy who shot him."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic.
