Good post? He didn't even forgive anyone. He just said, "Look at how smug I am celebrating Eastern Orthodox Lent, which is all about forgiveness or some ****. So forgive me *****es. If I can be arsed, I might forgive you for perceived transgressions, but probably not. See ya!" This is the very definition of lip service. It is supposed to be a thoughtful consideration of one's behavior over the past year. Not a shake of the etch-a-sketch and ten Hail Mary's. Awful post.

Please forgive me as well for anything I have done.

I'm only culturally Orthodox, by the way, don't get any ideas.
I know. Humility is a good habit for anyone.

Gribbler: it depends on your standards. There've certainly been times where I could have been nicer, though I suppose you'd argue "he had it coming" for at least a few.

MrFun: You can at least wait till after midnight to jack this thread, fer cryin' out loud. I'll be gone in just three more hours.

Well in three hours you can give up looking at shirtless men with their pants hanging down.

maybe they dont, I think the laws under Noah apply to the unchosen people

I know we don't like each other much, but this is how it's supposed to work. For times when I've done something seriously bad, I apologize directly, generally via PM to avoid dragging up old fights (because I usually take a while to cool down and realize I've screwed up). The ritual of forgiveness isn't intended as the be-all and end-all of penance--if it were, it would be closer to the end of Lent instead of the very beginning. Instead it's a necessary preliminary, where everyone gets together for vespers and agrees to bury any and all hatchets. There's a bit in the Gospels where Jesus says (paraphrasing here) "if you go to make an offering in the temple, and on your way remember a grudge against your brother, leave your offering at the altar and go set it right before making sacrifice."

So everybody lines up and asks forgiveness of everybody else, on the understanding that we are frail and human, and in the end the parish is supposed to be ready to move forward together. We don't go into details, I think because the details don't matter, we're supposed to let it go instead of dredging up who did what. Also, a lot of sins are simply evil thoughts, and if you went into the details there you'd generate hate faster than forgiveness. Anyway, since I spend a lot of time here, I thought I'd do the online equivalent. And yes, that's inclusive of you; I haven't been all that great to you either. For which I am sorry.

I am touched, sincerely. Hope you enjoy it. Her others are of slightly different genres, if you prefer.
