I guess the former. People with tech know how are saying more capacity would have been much better, but there are significant underlying issues still. The beta did not allow them to stress test region play. I mean, technically it did, but no one played in a region in the beta due to time limits. Everyone played one city to themselves.

That's what I don't get. They _could_ have tested all of that region stuff in the beta - just relax the time limits. Let a couple thousand people play _the whole weekend_ on one full server. That would've tested everything. But instead... nada.

And I don't believe the region stuff was fully unexpected. I don't know EA's QA team, but I know something from certain other testing experiences, and there are probably a hundred or more people in the last few months just playing the game and testing out things. Given ONE person can apparently find some of these major region issues, they can't have been a total surprise.

The graphics engine in the new Sim City, while not GPU melting, seem to qualify as "shiny". I know EA made them a point of emphasis in previews of the game. People generally seem pleased with them.

I suppose I can interpret your statements as self-deprecating.

I can't recall every one of your posts in this thread. Nor do I think you solely look forward to shiny graphics in games. But it seemed as if you made the comment in direct reference to something I said, implying I was an idiot. I didn't explicitly say I exclusively wanted a game with shiny graphics at the expense of good gameplay... nor do I. So I didn't take any offense. Nor would I even if I was a gfx fanboy. The troll/counter-troll was fun.

I do think you're an idiot so that is probably what I was implying. The graphics are shiny and impressive. I would buy the game if I were a tilt shift nut, solely to see the cool artwork.

Lots of ways to deal with it. Regions could be simulated on the PC, after all... I'm sure that's how the eventual crack will work (virtual machine running on your PC). Really all the 'simulation of the region' is doing is fixing prices and such - so they could set it up so the region prices are changed according to a particular algorithm, and as you switched between cities the other city's details are remembered. None of this is super complicated, for a SP game...

They could make it so prices don't change, and it wouldn't affect the game one bit.
