God had always existed and thus existed long before life ever came to be, but God did not create life.

      So He was surprised?

So... you believe God originated the Big Bang? Do you also believe God is omniscient (all seeing) and/or that God exists outside of time, so can see all of time at once?

So God if created the universe, did he create the rules that govern the universe?

I think that if you believe in God, and your definition of God is roughly equivalent to the Christian God, you can't argue he didn't create life in some sense - not that he created each being or each species, but that he created the concept of Life. Whether he specifically intervened to create it, or created the universe such that life could exist in it... either way, it's pretty hard to reconcile a belief in a Christian God without believing that in some way. Omniscient/all-powerful God has to get some credit.

That's not inconsistent with pretty much all of Science - it's just different.

Mr Fun, you should probably hold off on calling yourself a Christian until you have a firmer grasp of the basic principles.

I believe that God is all-seeing/omniscient, yes. He also exists outside of time as we humans think of time.

So if I believe in God and Jesus Christ, what should I be labeled as, until I meet your standards of grasping the principles of Christianity?

With the Big Bang, all organic molecules that would later allow for actual life to develop, came into being (from the stars themselves). So I guess in that sense, down to the origin of organic molecules, God is the ultimate originator of life, then.

So... if God created the Big Bang and saw/knew the results of that action before he did it, which would lead to human life... wouldn't he be the creator of life?

Well yes, following that, then God is the creator of life.
