    What Horsie said.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

This tweet amused me: @donnabrazile: President Obama started his speech at 11:53 and at 2:53 they start moaning. Some Republicans are just feeling left out. Let's come together.

WASHINGTON—According to a new report from the Pew Research Center, the number of reforms to U.S. law that could conceivably pass both houses of Congress and be signed into law is now down to three minor alterations to the nation’s traffic code. “Reinstating a federal speed limit, provided it is not overly restrictive,…

Today I am happy with the fact that Obama has less than one term to go. Every day the country is still here is a small victory.

Absolutely, because the 'smart' money was on the destruction of the nation.

But I believe and hope he will be a great President, though maybe appreciated and remembered more fondly by history than his own time, when he was a divisive figure, rather like Reagan

His major achievement will be ending the disasterous Bush wars, which go down in history as some of the dumbest foreign policy decisions of all time, included in those books about great mistakes. Killing Bin Laden will always be remembered as a high point.

In domestic policy, steering the US through the GFC, health care in his first term and in his second term immigration reform and maybe gun control could be his major achievements. But I don't see the gridlock in Congress ending.

If the economy picks up, as it seems to be doing, then his place in history as a great President will be assured, failing some major foreign policy blunder, like with say China.

But after Dubya, one of the worst US Presidents of all time, it's not hard to look good.

The big obstacle truly is Republican obstructionism. While it is comical to see the Republicans filibuster their own bills with no amendments simply because Obama endorsed it and agreed with them; their fanaticism and outright stupidity really is a problem for the nation.

His remarks about the nation being destroyed is exactly what I meant when I mentioned the fanaticism and stupidity of the Republican Party.

Hey...everybody has there opinion on what is best for the country. I could easily say the democratic party is stupid and fanatical (in fact, I think they are), but I will refrain out of respect to my fellow posters.

I think it's hard to find a federal politician that isn't fanatical.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

I'm not an Obama lover - his preachy revivalist inauguration speech made me queezy but I think he has a shot of being seen kindly by history.

How about Obama? A wishy washy tepid moderate yet still eager to please politician who seems completely unwilling to stand up for what he says he believes in. Hell, he routinely compromises with himself in an attempt to get Republicans to work with him but he doesn't seem to understand that they are filled with such blind and unreasonable hatred they will oppose things just because Obama said he was for them. For instance, at least a half dozen times Republicans proposed a bill, there were absolutely zero amendments on the bill, the President said he thought the bill was a good idea and that he supported it... Only to instantly have EVERY SINGLE Republican in the house suddenly vote to filibuster the bill including the Republicans who wrote the bill and originally proposed it.
