  • If we criminalize murder only murderers would be criminals.

There are about 1 million medical doctors in the United States, and in 2000 JAMA published a study showing that doctors kill 225,000 people every year. In other words, it takes about 4 medical doctors to kill a single person in a year.

Doctors are 2,000 times deadlier than guns. Just something to think about.
Usually, people go to the hospital because their life is already in jeopardy. And please don't make me defend hospitals. I'm not a fan of them.

Guns aren't the only cause, obviously. Banning assault rifles, high capacity clips or all guns for that matter won't stop murder. But you know what it will decrease significantly? Mass shootings.

And the Constitution doesn't protect guns. It protects "arms". And for perhaps a couple million years of human evolution, "arms" were sticks and sharpened rocks.

There is no legitimate civilian use for an assault rifle.

Frankly, what kind of ***** ass ***** needs an assault rifle to hunt. The only thing you hunt with assault rifles is people.

And I am not concerned about America suddenly being overwhelmed by mass killings with melee weapons. A decent sized man (or two) likely would be able to stop some rail thin skinny ass 20 year old from stabbing 30 kids to death.

Mass murder is a lot more difficult without a gun.

The only place gun crazies have been able to go with the argument is "I need a gun to fight the government".

Okay. So conservatives need guns to fight local police, state police, federal leos and our troops.

And we care about what these people think.... because why?
To us, it is the BEAST.

      • Assault rifles are banned, at least ones manufactured after 1986, as I mentioned a page ago.

Having to reload slightly more often wouldn't make much of a difference.

These aren't sick people dying in hospitals. 225,000 people die each year from a variety of iatrogenic causes, such as unnecessary surgery, adverse effects of prescribed medications, and infections contracted from other hospital patients.

Guns aren't the only cause, obviously. Banning assault rifles, high capacity clips or all guns for that matter won't stop murder. But you know what it will decrease significantly? Mass shootings.
First of all, I'm going to assume that you mean semi-automatic rifles, because assault rifles are already largely banned, and that you mean high capacity magazines instead of clips. But anyways, semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines abound at gun shows and shooting ranges across the country, none of which have been the scene of mass shootings. You know what prevents mass shootings? Armed bystanders.

You can defend yourself with an assault rifle, or with a semi-automatic rifle. And self-defense is a legitimate civilian use.

France became a democracy right about when our Constitution was written. Their Declaration of the Rights of Man had no mention of the right to keep and bear arms, but said instead that public military forces would safeguard the people's freedoms*. Since then, France has gone through five republics, two empires, two monarchies, and a fascist dictatorship, while we're still puttering along with our first Constitution. It may sound quaint and anachronistic, but the second amendment hasn't failed us yet.

            Wrong.

Even in Illinois, I can purchase semi-automatic version (quite easily modified to full auto if you have a dremmel) of nearly every and any assault rifle in existence.

And having 3-20 times the ammo capacity is a very significant advantage.

The modern infantry unit is based upon the idea of having a dedicated squad automatic weapon with high capacity ammunition.

Are you trying to receive a facepalm meme?

            • Those are not assault rifles! If it is semi-auto it is not an assault rifle! Christ.

I'm familiar with the equipment of a US Army squad. I have also had cursory training in machine guns (that was actually just last thursday; I mentioned it earlier in this thread).

The difference between what you are calling an "assault rifle" versus an ordinary hunting rifle (which is typically also semi-automatic) is not meaningful.

                • That'd be impressive because I've been looking around and I can't figure out where to get belted ammo or the links for them. I guess you could use the magazine option but they told me it's super unreliable when you do that because of the high rate of fire.

BTW it's really hard to shoot those things standing.

Something people might realize is that if you repeatedly dump 30 round magazines like ****ing Rambo your AR-15 is gonna cook off.

So only healthy people die in hospitals. Gotcha. Maybe you should decide for all of us which surgeries are necessary and which are not. And I have yet to see a healthy person in the hospital.

My dad spent a little over a decade in and out of the hospital. But then again, maybe my local hospital isn't a healthy person hospital.

Yes. Because people on murderous rampages often stop to think about the consequences of their actions. And they certainly don't attack gun shows because they are afraid of dying... shot by others. They want to shoot themselves and take great pains to protect themselves from harm.

                    So guns are not arms?
Guns are arms. So are .50 cal mg, rpg, at4, JDAM, SAMs, and hydrogen bombs. CAN I HAS ONE?!

And I can also defend myself with every weapon mentioned above. Again... not a legitimate use for a civilian. It's legitimate when that person becomes a cop or soldier.

So France's political history is the reason civilians need military weapons?

                    That's weak dude...
                    very weak...

                        • I'd love to see someone try to go on a rampage with a .50 cal. The ammo alone is too heavy to carry around, let alone the gun.
