In the South "yankee" means "Northerner". Ben Kenobi, a carpetbagger Canadian, is trying to make believe that he's a Texan. Even if it looks pathetic and he should stop.

I dunno. Basically in the United States "yankee" refers to northeasterner while everywhere else it just means "American."

Actually I've been wanting to know that for a while. I always imagine gribby as being in Boston, or some college town in Massachusetts or Connecticut.

Nietzsche actually was very far from Ayn Rand and likely would have laughed at her, to be honest. People tend to confuse the ubermensch with some sort of heroic dictator type, but it was actually more like an artist - someone who lives by his own moral code and isn't subject to mass morality (and here is where Rand would fail due to the fact that she was beholden to capitalist morality - Nietzsche hated both capitalist and communist morality which he thought made people into sheep). One of the things he's really good at is showing that a lot of morality was based on a Judeo-Christian basis and thus any system which wanted to purge the religious basis would have to come up with an entirely no moral order with a new basis because you can't just take out the Christianity out of a moral system based on Christian morality - it would stop making sense.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
              - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

Well, then Gribbler waives all right to complain about carpetbaggers.

I don't know how they do it in San Antonio, Norway but in the US you have every right to complain about idiots.

Indeed, idiots are everywhere. The only clue that we have that you are American is that flag you wear, btw.

Dunno. I guess we should humor him and call him 'American'.

I was amused by your terrible guess so I don't feel like telling you the correct answer. Maybe someday you'll figure out how timezones work.

Well, yes, the nature of the idol is different, but they both seem to be idolators of a hypothetical type. "The bulk of mankind are contemptible beasts, except for a special few who, unbound by stupid old codes of morality, stand tall and engage in genuinely creative, self-expressive activity while accountable to none but themselves." I've never heard that Rand liked dictators, nor Nietzsche, but that both despised religion and altruistic/traditional values, glorified extreme individuality, were thoroughly elitist...Nietzsche favors the vague and chaotic while Rand is concrete and systematic, but if both are apologists for somewhat different brands of amoral brutality, it seems a cosmetic difference.

That's a terrible analysis. Rand is an Objectivist. She believes in what she does because she believes that it is true, and that truth can be apprehended and understood. Neitzsche on the other hand believes just the opposite. He believes there's no such thing as objective truth and that amoral brutality is the consequence of this presupposition.

I realize you have a distaste for Rand but Rand is very different from Neitzsche. You seem to be belabouring under Rousseau's presupposition that the social contract society is the best and the only way to constrain human nature.
