MikeH, the way our insurance system works--by regulation--we limit things like copays and other things that would result in a market system of determining efficiency. Because of the way health insurance works here, as a means of financing healthcare, like a credit card for medical bills, instead of actual risk mitigation--it separates the consumer from market forces. Hence why it cannot be properly described as private insurance. It's not really insurance.

Medicare is even worse, where they will pay for almost anything regardless of price or efficacy.

The American health care system, as it stands, is a joke.
Obamacare, as it stands, is also a joke.

          Neither joke is particularly funny.

          • Wow this thread is a combination cluster**** of abortion and public vs. private health care. Now all we need is a simultaneous civil war threadjack sub-conversation to complete the trifecta.

              • Abortion is the most divisive issue since slavery. There is no middle ground.

You truly don't care to inform yourself...do you? You aren't even going to read the (very well written) paper, right?

If it's divisive, don't force other people to fellate your beliefs.

You'd make a great Confederate! Come down to Virginia, you can hang out with SoCV. Stephen Douglas for president!

Would be for an actual person rather than a clump of cells that won't know the difference.

Didn't the Republicans run on a platform of not letting slavery expand its territory? Sounds like a middle ground. Of course the South was a bunch of nutjobs who threatened to secede if the Republicans won.

Confederates would not have given their slaves the option of having an abortion.

Stephen Douglas ran on Asher's platform of not "forcing others to fellate your beliefs"--self-determination of states. Republicans ran on a platform of stopping slavery where they could, although the radical wing (which turned out to be most of them once the war ended) wanted to abolish it entirely.
