MikeH, the way our insurance system works--by regulation--we limit things like copays and other things that would result in a market system of determining efficiency. Because of the way health insurance works here, as a means of financing healthcare, like a credit card for medical bills, instead of actual risk mitigation--it separates the consumer from market forces. Hence why it cannot be properly described as private insurance. It's not really insurance.Originally posted by MikeH View PostThis is a key point. Not only that but the NHS got accused by people in the US of having Death Panels just for having procedures in place to put limits on treatments based on their efficiency. Which surely should be a key part of any health system.
Medicare is even worse, where they will pay for almost anything regardless of price or efficacy. If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

The American health care system, as it stands, is a joke.Originally posted by MikeH View PostIMPORTANT NOTE : I did not give an opinion on whether Obamacare would make it more or less efficient.
Obamacare, as it stands, is also a joke.

You truly don't care to inform yourself...do you? You'd make a great Confederate! Come down to Virginia, you can hang out with SoCV. Stephen Douglas for president!

Didn't the Republicans run on a platform of not letting slavery expand its territory? Sounds like a middle ground. Of course the South was a bunch of nutjobs who threatened to secede if the Republicans won.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostAbortion is the most divisive issue since slavery. Stephen Douglas ran on Asher's platform of not "forcing others to fellate your beliefs"--self-determination of states. Republicans ran on a platform of stopping slavery where they could, although the radical wing (which turned out to be most of them once the war ended) wanted to abolish it entirely.Originally posted by gribbler View PostDidn't the Republicans run on a platform of not letting slavery expand its territory?
