I wait until it's almost the end of the month and launch to whatever country needs it the most and will give me a reasonable amount of cash.

    • Huh. On impossible the AI will rarely try to shoot through a smoke grenade. It will instead adjust position, use explosives, or engage a different target. Easier AIs just roll the dice.

        • Hey cool I actually beat the impossible terror mission this time. Two whole civilians survived. One soldier dead, four gravely wounded, while the sniper was only mildly wounded.

And I did it without saving!

It was the army base map.

          • I'm having problems with both the size of my penis and the Viagra like effects which my penis endures. I know everyone loves my penis and wishes my penis was the center of their universe but I'm having a bad time with it all and I think I shall **** all over everything.

On my ubersquad game I challenge myself not to save. I have a terror mission that I think I will attempt on impossible using that rule.
I wouldn't say it's cheating. I would say that it's not giving yourself the full experience of the game. Saving every turn means you have rather less consequences of your actions; for example, in my previous game I had just won a council mission, I thought (bomb detonation) only to find the next turn a bunch of thin men appeared and killed me in a turn. If I'd saved the turn before I could've gotten them to proper cover the turn before they appeared; but because I had instead arrayed for a different perceived threat (I assumed there were guys back towards base), I lost. I think that's part of the fun for me - knowing that if I make a mistake, I lose.

                  • Also you have a lot more interesting tales of your journey through the game when you can't just reload. Sometimes a madcap escape with a single beloved character can be so much more satisfying than 'almost everyones dead, hit reload'.

                    • For me of course it's further incentive to redo everything properly from the start - if I get 3 good missions in then totally screw a couple up and effectively lose, I'd rather just start over. Perhaps I won't when I'm twenty missions in and screw one up, but hopefully by that point you have enough goodwill and tech and whatnot to be able to survive losing four to eight soldiers.

That brings up an interesting/relevant question. How do you all balance leveling up your top six with leveling up other soldiers to replace your top six when they are injured/die/etc.? I assume you have to have a 'bench squad' of some sort. Do you try to keep one full bench/backup squad that is at a similar level (ie, around 12 total soldiers near the same level) or is there a squad or so that is behind a few levels, but you take them out for easier missions?

                      • Personally I tend to try and fit one or two low level people in alongside the vets so theres always backups. Had to restart once after losing my only eight experienced soldiers in the space of two missions and having to try and take on mutons and cyberdiscs with rookies. That doesn't go well..
