I am finding my classic game difficult and I've been resorting to saving every turn a significant portion of the time. I know some people think that's cheating, but I think it allows me to more efficiently learn how to correct my mistakes.
On my ubersquad game I challenge myself not to save. I have a terror mission that I think I will attempt on impossible using that rule.

Yeah, I saw that; apparently, "Ken Levine" is a pretty good soldier as well."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I think the problem I have with assaults is that I am risk adverse to a fault almost.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostI think having the second heavy is too much of an opportunity cost given the strength of having assaults as a buffer between your damage-dealers and certain fast-moving enemies."I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

If you give them Lightning Reflexes and the other defense buffs, they're usually pretty solid. Especially if you use the plasma rifle as opposed to the shotgun (at least until you unlock that weird alloy shotgun thing--that thing is death in a convenient portable package)."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

I have one with a rifle and one with a shotgun. I gave +damage buffs to the one with the shotgun and +defense buffs to the one with the rifle. It works out well.Originally posted by Guynemer View PostIf you give them Lightning Reflexes and the other defense buffs, they're usually pretty solid. I've been running pretty consistently with 1 sniper, 2 supports, an assault, a heavy, and either another assault or a heavy depending on mission type. Will swap out the sniper and run 2 assaults and 2 heavies on missions where LOS is likely to be poor.Originally posted by MRT144 View PostMy ideal squad is

2 Support
1 Assault

Run & Gun + shotgun = instant death for most aliens. There are few things more enjoyable than running behind a Muton and shooting him point blank in the back with a shotgun.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostI am considering removing the shotgun from my first assault and just going with 2 rifle assaults. Shotgun is just not all that good.

Wow, the Impossible AI is something else. On the terror missions it uses heavy floaters as forward observers (!!) for the Sectopod mortar atack (!!!!) and it will guess as to where you are if you kill the floaters. And it's pretty goddamn good at that. I was unable to advance off of a bridge loaded with cars while I got pelted with artillery. I saved four people before getting stuck, while steadily taking worse and worse wounds, until I had three severely wounded soldiers and one critically wounded soldier that I managed to stabilize. Then all of the civilians were dead and I had to high-tail it back to the dropship.
This is with my uber squad.

You have to remember that a lot of people aren't serious gamers and just bought it to play a couple of hours per week.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View Post
Checked the steam achievement stats---0% of players have beaten the game on impossible difficulty. I guess that's why they call it impossible!
.8% have beaten it on classic. **** this is a hard game.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
