    • It almost sounds like the undercover cop was out of 21 Jump Street.

Jenkins, an undercover officer working with state agents to stop illegal drinking, was a four-year veteran with the university police who was in his late 20s.

It was probably a DA/SA or a SAO gun. If the hammer is back and the safety is off, then I'd put good money on it going off when dropped.

Basically, in order for the gun to go off, the hammer has to be back, because the way the gun fires is the hammer swings forward to strike the primer on the bullet. On a Glock, the hammer is always down until you pull the trigger; pulling the trigger performs two actions: 1) pull the hammer back, 2) release it. Hence, DAO: Double Action Only. That's why police forces like Glocks so much. They're very safe mechanically, they're very reliable, and they are very simple to operate.

Rifles just about universally have single-action triggers. If you drop a cocked rifle with a bullet in the chamber, and the safety is off, there is a reasonable chance that it will go off.

How old are you? What the hell kind of reference was this? Personally I think the cop was straight out of CHiPs, my god you are running out of time to come out of the closet.

My Dad has one that I first shot when I was ~8 years old. My brother when he was ~7, which means he's even more American* than I am. Yes, it has a kick, but it's manageable if you aren't a ***** un-American kid

*This is further witnessed by the fact I don't own any firearms myself, but my brother bought up several guns before they were going to be banned so he could have them grandfathered in. I'm so un-American that I don't even know which guns those are specifically. (What could be more American than making money off owning banned guns?)

            • There is no way a .357 should cause any pain unless you are holding it completely wrong or shooting yourself with it.

              • Revolvers in general have a kick problem because they don't have the movement of the slide to help with the recoil that automatics have. .357s can have nasty kick if the gun is relatively light.

                  • I like to cover my revolver with jam before we proceed to the more intimate portion of the proceedings. (And before you say anything about this being "perverse" or "bad for my health", please remember I have the right to do whatever I want with my gun by declaration of the CONSTITUTION!)

He probably used .38 special rounds for you kids. The .357 is a total pussycat using .38s.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Why would a police officer use lethal force to break up a tailgate party?

I doubt it. The kick was significantly more than with any of his other guns we also shot. In general my dad wouldn't have had anything you could use "pussycat" in regards to. (The closest would be me )

                            • Revolvers will feel like they have more kick than autos almost all of the time, unless you're using a really big auto cartridge.

But he didn't use lethal force breaking up an incident - it was another officer that acted stupidly
