Note I say in the direction, not shoot at, as with people screaming and diving and trying to get out of the theater, aiming is an impossibility. Now the guy who shot second, he notices that you shot (but does not know the direction you shot) and in the confusion, thinks you and the original shooter are both bad guys. He starts blasting away at you. You start blasting away at him. The original shooter starts blasting away at the both of you. You all unload at each other, firing wildly in a dark crowded paniced smoke filled movie theater. There is no way the death toll doesn't skyrocket in this situation, and both of the people who were trying to 'save the day' would most likely be included in that number.
All responsible shooters know to verify their target as a threat before firing at it, and to not "fire in the direction" of someone.

Picture instead a guy illuminated clearly by the projector and his muzzle flashes walking calmly up the aisle shooting. You crouch down and pop him in the head when he walks by, or better yet, shoot him in the back of the head if he missed you on his first pass.

Obviously if you assume everyone with a gun is an idiot, things will go south.

Further, even if you do identify the guy looking like a SWAT member as the bad guy, how many of these people are going to shoot with 100% accuracy given the panic, smoke, darkness, and people shoving and diving everywhere?

More guns on that scene would've made the death toll much higher.
No smoke bombs. There was tear gas, most of it ineffective.

Theaters aren't that dark. Maybe things are different in Canada, but people in the aisles are clearly visible. No one in the theater had any doubt after the first shots what was going on and who was doing it. They even saw him entering before he started shooting and made a mental note he was probably in costume.

They both look ridiculous to be in the hands of a civilian. You don't need a gun like that to hunt deer or threaten your wife.
Mini-14s are one of THE MOST POPULAR target guns. As a left-handed shooter, bolt action guns are really hard to find for me, so I get semi-autos.

And you can use them for hunting certain types of smaller game, such as foxes. In fact, the smaller rounds are usually better for varmints.

But it wouldn't be like that. Anyone with a concealed carry permit, is, by definition, John Rambo Jr.

          ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

          • I mean aisles have to be illuminated for fire safety reasons. Of course they could see the guy.

                c) really you only need one more idiot with a gun than you have intelligent person (if we ignore the fact that they left their gun at home in their gun safe because who the **** is endangering their life by having a gun around when going to a movie theater in Colorado)?

                • The movie was great. Not as good as The Dark Knight, but few movies are.
                  John Brown did nothing wrong.

You should really consider that despite the massive expansion in the number of concealed carry permits issued over the past few years, there's no indication that this has driven up homicides. The rate of homicides of any type (justified, negligent, manslaughter, murder) among concealed carry permit holders is very low.

                      • Ice T weighs in:

“It’s legal in the United States,” the rapper said. “The right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police.”

“And do you see any link between that and this sort of instance?” Guru-Murthy challenged.

“No. Not really,” Ice-T responded. “If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it.”

“Makes it easier though, doesn’t it?” the host pushed back.

“Not really. You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time.”

Reminds me of the ardent supporters of gun rights of the 1960's, the Black Panthers:

                          • Ice T makes a good point. If there is a policeman who invades your home to rape your wife, or who tries to plant evidence, guns help you out.

                              Yeah this guy:

Ice T is right that this country is based on guns. There's a reason why the Second Amendment is fanatically supported by people as diverse as gun-toting Southerners to Black nationalists.

                              • Ice T admits to robbing banks and various other Class 1 felonies and is famous for "Cop Killer".

His stance on gun ownership is not surprising and is actually a pretty clear example of the problems of gun ownership.
