By the way, kuci's understanding of my thesis is correct, and his claim that there would be less physics phds without government finding of the lhc is also correct. I should note that I am not a marginal physics phd, however, so in all likelihood, in a world where the lhc was not funded I would still hold a phd in physics.

So basically, while our military is greatly oversized, it's not the main culprit in our spending troubles. That would be the unlimited growth of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
