Also, my argument isn't that I value applied technologies and don't value science - I get plenty of personal enjoyment from science funding! The argument is that most actual people get way more value from applied technologies than from "science".

Not all technology or scientific discovery is predicted in advance. Things like the space program led to some crazy new **** that we'd never have even known about without that program. Your entire (poorly thought out) argument would slow human progress to a crawl.

You might think that a blowjob from NoVa is worth 100$ and a blowjob from germantown is only worth 50$, but only you are really going to be able to give a value for you getting blowjobs... only you are a buyer on the market.
