If it was a savvy move, Obama would have done it sooner. This clearly forced his hand. It may have been a move he planned anyway, but at the very least it disrupted his timing.

The sad thing is that the guy apologized for getting shot in the face.

Dick Cheney apologized for shooting him in the face, and the guy said he was sorry that it resulted in bad publicity for Cheney and said he still hoped Cheney would go hunting with him.

oops. I meant Lori but wrote Elok.

It wasn't savvy, dude; Biden and the resulting press/donor criticism of Obama's ridiculous "evolving views" forced his hand. It may end up being a net positive politically, but that's certainly not clear and this wasn't a proactive announcement on the President's part to put Romney on the spot.

              Really?

              He's a ****ing politician, of course he's a liar.

Pro-tip: they all lie. Every. ****ing. One.

Second pro-tip: EVERYONE LIES. You, me, your mom, the Pope, everyone.

I'm going to pretend I have HC on ignore so I can claim that I didn't see his post scooping my prior argument, rather than admit that I spent too much time fiddling with my wording and consequently posted something with no value-added.

Meh. I'm not convinced Biden had that much to do with it. Polling in favor of gay marriage just tipped over the 50% mark in the past few months; now that it has public support, and he has a clear-cut opponent, it seems like as good a time as any to state his true position.

FDR had 3 different VP's. I don't know the history on why he went through them, though.

It seems to be the consensus view amongst the political commentariat. For example...

President Obama endorsed same-sex marriage Wednesday, capping days of frenzied speculation about his views and intensifying pressure from gay campaign donors that began with surprising comments on the issue over the weekend by Vice President Biden.

The first one hated the New Deal and had claimed during the 1932 campaign that Hoover's programs were taking the country toward socialism and he was upset with FDR's court-packing scheme. The second one was a Communist sympathizer.

                        edit: I meant 1932, not 1928

I think the reason Obama's been hesitant to announce support for gay marriage is that black voters are overwhelmingly against it.

                              Won't matter. Obama's got that.

Hell, Obama giving gay marriage legitimacy might even change the minds of a lot of Blacks on this issue. Obama probably trumps religious upbringing. He's the messiah to liberals, you know.

Nothing to argue with here. To think this will cost Obama the AA vote is lunacy.
