I call saying Israel should be destroyed and all the Jews be driven out anti-semitic especially when it comes from a guy using a Nazi handle.

Well, I didn't need another reason to dislike Alby, but now I have one.

Giving the Jews East Prussia would have only been fair. Cities like Danzig were heavily Jewish pre-war. Why were the Palestinians punished for the crimes of Germany?

I'm 100% behind the security and safety of Israel and absolutely don't want anyone "wiping them off the map" and when that was a serious danger perhaps support from the US was warranted. But they seem pretty darn able to take care of themselves now. They've proven their strength in multiple wars. There is no danger of a serious invasion against them. So let them stand on their own. We get very little out of that relationship. So why or how are they a 'strong American ally'? And why is that worth keeping?

The Jews didn't want just any piece of land, they wanted Palestine. And no one really cares about Arabs.

They're right, Israel does make a nuclear armageddon more likely.

I don't know if it will bring results but it looks like the US will be having direct talks with Iran over it's nuclear program.

If Israel were attacked and we weren't there to help then there is a very real chance that Israel would be destroyed. Israel's missile defense systems also were built with our help, so they are even more dependent on us if they face WMDs (nuclear, chemical, and radiological in particular). Israel would have lost the Yom Kippur War if Nixon hadn't resupplied the IDF.

                  meh -
1)As far as I know, none of the ammo or weapons got to any use.
2)Without the Cold War context, and the hostility between NATO and the WP, the SU wouldn't have supplied all of the weaponry to the Arab armies, anyway. For Israel, the US was ameliorating the problem it has created. We were winning the wars before the powers' intervention, and after those.

I don't think that people appreciate what are the scenarios that Israel worries about it. It's not an all out nuke strike by Iran, but by a proxy group with a close affiliation with Iran, a-la the bombing in Buenos Aires. We already have an Iranian proxy as the only non-governmental group in the world with ballistic missiles, so it is not really far fetched.

It appears that President Obama is willing to move forward with stronger oil sanctions. I pray that this will be enough.
Hmmmmm................... Once upon a time Austro-Hungary was a strong ally of Imperial Germany. How did that work out? Sometimes you just gotta say, with friends like this who needs enemies?

Yes, with the occasional friendly fire incident who needs enemies, right.

Why is this debate about, ahem, us, so goddamn emotional? If the US thinks that every thing they do which is also in Israel's interest is a favor to us, I encourage them to stop. I remind you that 'we' were surviving much harsher odds, in which we managed to establish the country itself.

It is not just military support. You'd become the international pariah within months without US support in the UN.

We were an "international pariah" from 48'. This, of course, intensified, since Israel was used as a talking point in the cold war, where we were an "international pariah" to the entire eastern block. But now, there is no cold war, so... meh, our condition is much better than in 48'.
