Serious question--where would I go to read up on these studies? I don't doubt that you are referencing real studies, but you don't cite them, which leaves me wondering where you run across this stuff. Obviously it's related to your work but I don't exactly work in finance.

It has nothing to do with my work (directly). It has to do with reading 5 or 6 econ blogs every day and clicking on linked papers. Some of them are relevant to my work, which is how I justify doing it at work.

And if you want to find the studies I referenced (including the review paper I'm thinking about which presents results from a half dozen different studies) google is your friend, along with a .edu-registered IP to access NBER papers for free.

Seems a pretty stupid thing to be amazed by. Especially more than once.

It's expected. The butt of the joke rarely appreciates it.

Given that I'm only the butt of ~20% of your "jokes" yet I find 100% of your posts mind-numbingly dull I don't think that's it.

The real problem is immigrants take part in the unamerican activity of savings, which by induction can only doom the economy.

                    • I should expect an educated person to refrain from talking about evidence in economics as though it means much.

Oh, and while you're at it, explain why (if applicable) you prefer wealth transfers, whether by tax money or charity money, to people in first world countries instead of third-world countries. I will accept Felch-style arguments for this one, just demonstrate that you're intellectually honest enough to admit your favoritism. (If I am mischaracterizing you, Felch, I apologize.)

Your thread is not even an honest discussion. In point 1, you state that you're going to give opposing view points the benefit of the doubt. In point 2, you want "us" to be honest enough to "admit our favoritism".
I invite you back from breach of self righteousness. You cannot grow as a human being if you can't listen to others views with an actual open mind. I think this is part of the reason why you appeared to be lying on me, was because your mind can't except opposing viewpoints.
Now, if I understand you correctly, You believe that the U.S. government has too much power and that states should have more power. At the same time, you believe in open immigration even though several states want more restrictive policies than what the U.S. government has in place. After listening to you, I believe that maybe you are a corporate lackey, that really does not want a powerful federal or state government. I believe that maybe you actually want corporations to have all the power so they can hire and fire people as they choose. And what of the poor in the 3rd or 1st world? I believe that your main concern for some reason is labor at the cheapest price. Am I right?

If peer-reviewed studies can't reveal much truth then there's little hope for statements like "immigrant gets the job, you don't, any questions?" made be semi-literate accountants. People who assume a static number of "jobs" while not providing any reasons for their assumption deserve to be unemployed.

Maybe you aren't understanding my jokes very well then, the % is definitely quite a bit higher than that. That you don't find them funny of course increases the humor in it.

I don't care if that person is an immigrant or not, if he's better than me, he deserves the job.
HC, that is an idealistic view. When you have a wife and kids to feed you won't feel that the job should go to the "best qualified", you're going to want the job to go to you. You're going to want your kids fed and your wife fed. And if the wife is not fed you're probably not going to get any *****. That may not be important too you but it has been a driving factor throughout history.
