For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Originally posted by Dr Strangelove View PostCain's psychotic ad campaign alone might have done that... What the heck was up with Cain's ads? He was president of the Restaurant Association, surely he would know what a decent commercial looks like. Could anyone imagine the smoking manager plugging McDonald's or the fighting cowboy hawking for Arbys?
Then after riding this costlessly self-sustaining tsunami of attention-whoredom for a while, they can go on news shows and claim that the smoking bit was inadvertent and was just the outcome of Cain's terse instruction to "let Block be Block," which throws in the additional value that they're keeping it "real" and not the same phony platitudes that they think voters are sick of. Another small inroad that cost them $0.00.
This is all just baseless speculation of course, but I think you'd have to have been born yesterday to not at least realize that they wouldn't have done this unless it was a carefully calculated move for some definite goals like the above. It's also not going to do a whole hell of a lot of damage in their target demographic, which includes, but is not limited to, a vast wellspring of angry short-order cooks talking politics while tucking down Marlboros out back. The types of upper-class, educated Repugs that would find this ad reckless are the types of Repugs that would vote for Romney anyway, so Cain has little to lose with this stunt and at least something to gain. Plus at least they have a ****ing sense of humor, which is hard to come by in this business.
