Plenty of Scripture asserts that we do no need to do anything for salvation - that God's grace is enough and the concept of "earning" your way into God's grace is a huge fallacy that Christians have been correcting ever since Paul's been writing letters to churches .

So when Jesus told the parable of the Sheep and the Goats he was preaching error? No one earns their way into heaven, and faith is essential, but faith without good works is insufficient. Feel free to believe otherwise, but understand that you're wrong.

What is faith alone, anyways? How can you have faith and not do the right thing? Good works are the expression of our faith, not a replacement.

Good works is simply evidence of true faith, as opposed to just going along with the crowd. They are not necessary for salvation.

Paul was actually very big on doing good works. I'm not sure many Protestants know to what extent. Catholics get a lot right. For example, the main reason for prayer is the forgiveness of sin. I bet if you asked a bunch of Protestants what we pray for you would get a half dozen answers and none of them would be forgiveness of sins.

Individual Catholics aren't called upon to be experts. But at least we don't just let any old fast talking snake oil salesman start up his own parish. Protestantism doesn't just reject tradition, it rejects the very idea of expertise and accumulated understanding.

You're wrong but I have another point. A minister once told me that tradition was the accumulation of reason? Isn't that a crazy definition? Anywho, it makes very little sense to believe something just because that's the way people have always believed. If you assume that it does how can you talk about real experts?

The "Word of God" was written by mere men as well. Men inspired by God, but still just men. It is their attempts to write down the revelation that they experienced. After all, Jesus didn't write a Gospel - he was the Word in flesh.

As Imran just said, Christ was God's Word. The Bible is simply a record, of secondary importance to the incarnate Word Himself. As a human creation, it is necessarily open to error.

I often find atheists actually know more about religion than the folks born who never changed because they actually question everything and research it. About the only folks who consistently know more are converts and that's just because they had to learn everything from scratch so they learn about the whole nine yards.
