And it's the Americans that are pretending to take the high road.
Yeah, if you're American you have to agree with everything the American government does. That doesn't sound retarded.

Clearly, the answer is yes. The man has stopped, hasn't he?

Now, granted, Wiktionary does mention a secondary meaning of "allow or permit," but I would say that "excuse, forgive or overlook" is the far more common use of the word.
Unfortunately, even HC's own cited reference lists the "allow or permit" as the primary definition. And it's quite clear from the context that's exactly how I used the word.

Great, so the Canadian government doesn't send you to prison, it just gives you a massive fine. If he keeps trying to express his views the government will only take away everything he owns. Yeah, go Canada

Again, this is largely a cultural thing.

Americans think it's cool to own large amounts of guns, ban gays from marrying eachother, censor boobies and "bad words" on TV, protest fallen soldier's funerals, and slander identifiable minorities with propaganda much like the Nazis did in WW2.

Other countries have moved well beyond such immaturity.

$17.5K isn't massive. It's sufficiently large to discourage *******s like him from spreading hateful propaganda. It's served its role admirably.

Fines are often used to protect the best interest of society. For example, speeding...

WHO DOES THE GOVERMMENT THINK IT IS IF IT TELLS ME HOW FAST I SHOULD DRIVE MY CAR?

Do Americans even ****ing realize how inconsistent their beliefs about freedom are?

              • Wow...those are some astonishing generalizations for a country of 300 million. I seem to recall several states actually have gay marriage or civil unions, and a majority of Americans supporting civil unions.

I also seem to recall Westboro being the most hated group in the US, but since they protest at our funerals, obviously it's an american icon and a centerpiece of our culture.

As evidenced by this thread, all of you condone such behaviour. This is my point.

You are culturally and socially immature.

I'm glad you're rich enough to think $17.5k is a trifle.

                    • I don't think even my dad is that rich and he has five bathrooms in his house.

                        Thanks.

It's not even the price of a car.

It's not a trifle, but it's not "massive". I've had monthly credit card bills larger than that.

Again, I feel the need to emphasize that this crackpot has said nothing about killing them. He's just using some seriously jackass rhetoric. Honestly, I'd be fine with hammering him for bunk statistics like "gays are 430 times more likely to have AIDS," which I'm guessing is off by a factor of roughly 100-200. As for the bit about pedophilia, the opposite is more likely to be true. Last I heard, child molesters were overwhelmingly heterosexual when not kiddy-fiddling. As long as it's a matter of objective fact and not some horse**** about "affronting people's dignity," it's cool with me. Spurious claims should be exposed to public ridicule and vigorously belittled, not sat upon.

So you oppose the American slander and libel laws as well?

                              • It doesn't matter. It's a general claim you made.
