I've been trying out Firefox 8 beta for a few days. Is there a plugin/option for Firefox like Chrome's incognito or "Inspect Element"? Those are the two things I'm missing most so far.
Also, how can I make typing a single word in the awesomebar return a Google search result rather than taking me to some 3rd party Yahoo powered monstrosity saying they were unable to find "word"? (Some it automatically passes me through, like "amazon"... which isn't always helpful either.)

Inspect Element --> get firebug.
Incognito --> Private Browsing (from FF menu)

This isn't normal FF behaviour. Your ISP is probably doing this. Consider using Google Public DNS or OpenDNS. If FF can't resolve a host name and gets the correct error from the ISP, it performs a google search for it. Your ISP is likely redirecting you to another page. Many ISPs do this.

Firefox also lets you clear private data that's less than one-four hours old (options -> privacy -> clear recent history)
For private browsing I use JonDoFox in a separate window (there are a few sites I need to use at work that the idiot IT people have blocked, so I use JonDoFox to get around their web filter)<p style="font-size:1024px">HTML is disabled in signatures </p>

I did that back in 2000 in HS as well. Then they got wise and blocked SSH traffic.
I got around this by hosting a web server on my home computer and writing a PHP script to manually proxy the webpages for me."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I used an ssh proxy at the air force research laboratory (our job was to exploit the military's IT weaknesses, but we weren't allowed to do our jobs because it was against The Rules), so when the IT idiots eventually blocked the SSH ports we did our work from a nearby Panera shop.Originally posted by VetLegion View PostOpera!!!!<p style="font-size:1024px">HTML is disabled in signatures </p>
