I don't accidentally do so - because the browser (Firefox) asks me if I really want to close the window. So I'm not sure, because my browser has checks to prevent that. I think that wins.

It's also on the History menu of FF and mapped to CTRL-SHIFT-N.

      Open New Tab: CTRL-T
      Undo Close Tab: CTRL-SHIFT-T

      Open New Window: CTRL-N
      Undo Close Window: CTRL-SHIFT-N

I could declutter this context menu a bit if necessary, but it always opens to the lower-right of my mouse pointer (meaning that my mouse is closest to "back, reload, foward" and the other most frequently used commands) so I haven't seen the need

I'll admit I used to love mouse gestures when I still used a mouse.

I use a trackball for my main laptop (since 90% of the time I'm using it I'm in a recliner with the trackball on the arm rest), and any but the simplest mouse gestures are a pain in the ass with it

They're infinitely better than balancing a mouse pad on an arm rest

The reason I can't really enumerate all the ways in which Opera
is superior is that I don't really use the other browsers. They've
all been converging toward some usability standards which is very
wellcome. But I don't keep track of where each of them is at the
                  moment feature wise.

BTW, here's a trivial example from today. I went to a page to download
an audiobook. However, they don't provide a single file, instead, you have
to download an mp3 for each chapter, and there are 32 chapters. In
Opera there is a way to select multiple links to files and download them
all. I fired up Chrome and IE and tried to find something similar but could
not. Both required me to click each file I want to download and choose
"save target as...". After some googling, I found that they solve this problem
by way of extensions. Well, if you need to download an extension just to do
                    something as simple as this...

I use the internet at work for many hours every day and I've never needed to do that. Great to know that if I ever visit a site crap enough not to provide a single zip of all the files did there's an extension for it.

Why do I want my core browser rammed with features I'll never use? I'd rather add just the extensions I need.

I did try use Opera for a while a year or so back... it's ok.

I hope you realised when typing that this is also why you can't enumerate all the ways Opera is inferior.

I prefer for obscure features to be included as extensions instead of going in the core application - there's less chance that I'll unintentionally use the feature, and there's less mucking about with figuring out how the feature works

I can't provide any evidence that it's better, but it is!

I used Opera for a period of time before switching to Firefox...

I would say Chrome or Firefox is the way to go now...

I tried Opera briefly, ages and ages ago. Half the screen was obscured by a built-in ad which could only be removed by switching to the pay version. I went back to IE before eventually discovering Firefox. I haven't seen Opera since, but in the spirit of this thread I'm going to assume it's still exactly the same as it was in 2001 or so, and condemn it.
