People found Obama's victory inspiring because a couple of generations ago, within the lifetimes of many current voters, Obama would not have been able to even speak in some of the districts he carried in the 2008 election for fear of being killed as an uppity darky--your average lynch mobber, then and now, couldn't even find Kenya on a map. Which raises the question, was Obama's family from slaves, or slave owners? His mother was rich and white, which is why he was able to do so. Yet, everyone seems to ignore this fact.

Oh, really? That's basically meaningless because practically everyone if you go back far enough is black.

What is meaningful, is that his mother was rich and wealthy, that he didn't grow up in America, only came back to America for school, that his mother's family paid for his school, etc.

He's had the skids greased for him his whole life, he's never earned a dime.

And yet apparently that he is just as white as he is black is irrelevant to the people who have had to climb up from nothing.

Untrue. A cinematographer friend of mine once told me that lighting American blacks is much more difficult tham African or European blacks (I was doing a shoot with an English actor). The vast majority of American blacks have mixed blood, either white European of native American or both. It is highly doubtful that either Oprah or Will Smith have only black ancestors.
