I'd be more quick to forgive the execution of an innocent person over the systematic mistreatment of tens of thousands of prisoners in the California jail system.

Also, as has been repeatedly stated, both state and federal courts ruled against him. Either we accept their conclusions or we have a justice system based on popular opinion.

You're just a knee-jerk Dixie hater. The south seems to be having the least governmental problems--your state is the one with record budget deficits, meaningless gerrymandered elections, overpopulated prisons, sky-high taxes and massive unemployment. I don't see that in most southern states.

California's budget deficit is only about 25th worst in the country as deficit to GDP so claiming we have the worst deficits is retarded especially since Texas has a much, much worse deficit than California has. Oh, speaking of Texas, kid, do you know what the TOTAL difference in over all median tax rates between "low tax" Texas and "high tax" California is? Two percentage point difference. Yes, a grand total of 2% when you add up the differences in tax rates. The incarceration rate is actually middle of the pack among states and not sky high but since the population of the state is the largest in the country, yes, we have the over all largest prison population. And, lastly, yes, currently we have a high unemployment rate (about 11.8% instead of 9.2% in the rest of the country (oh, and the cities only have about 10% so it's unemployed in the countryside/unincorporated areas which is driving up the numbers) but California like Florida rode the real estate bubble highest so they are being effected most now that the bubble popped. You shouldn't be surprised when a massive bubble leaves an economic hang over.

It's not rocket science so it should be pretty easy for you to understand if you'd just turn off the propaganda at Fox and watch some real objective news instead.

Yes, but luckily in 2008 a proposition was passed which would force the state to send those people to treatment instead of jail. Right now we have the right wing nuts suing the state trying to stop this from occurring but once the proposition is cleared by the courts and goes into effect the problem should be solved. Oh, and you claimed California was the most gerrymandered but we've passed two propositions with very specific geographic based and compactness based rules rules on redistricting so we've actually done more than any other state to fight gerrymandering (these new districts will go into effect in 2012); compare that to Texas which is literal the most gerrymandered state in the country.

Why would I compare a big populous state to medium sized low population states? In the south Texas is the obvious choice for comparison because both are large high population states.

Break for dangerous offender Leo Teskey angers victim's wife

One of the most despised criminals in recent Edmonton history is a legal step closer to a possible appeal of his dangerous offender status.

Leo Teskey was declared a dangerous offender after a vicious attack left apartment manager Dougald Miller bed-ridden for life in a near vegetative state, since 2001. The Alberta Court of Appeal Wednesday issued a "memorandum of judgement" to give Teskey a chance at possibly overturning the declaration that could see him imprisoned for life.

The court authorizes enough money for Leo Teskey to obtain a new lawyer who will go over oral and written reasons for the dangerous offender designation. Funding will also allow the new lawyer to have one interview with Teskey before deciding if there are grounds to launch an appeal.

Miller's wife, Lesley, was outraged upon hearing the news. She says she was told a week ago that it didn't look like Teskey would get the funding he had sought.

"I would like to know exactly how much money has been spent on this man during this trial... during the last 11 years," says Miller. "I would like the courts to award my husband the same amount of money."

Teskey's application for the appeal court to hear his case is scheduled to happen in December

Dangerous offender status can lead to dying of old age in prison with no chance of parole. No **** the accused should have access to the courts to argue his case.
