Because they want to show what manly-men they are. Sure, they dodged the draft and avoided military service themselves but they want to invade every country around the world to make up for their personal cowardliness. That's why they thump their chests and demand invasions and people being put to death. The really stupid part is how they then whine about deficits when it was all of their actions which caused the deficit (multiple unfunded foreign wars, spending 10-20 times more to execute people when life in prison works just fine, ever more tax cuts for the rich who own them lock, stock, and barrel).

Someone really should do a study where they measure the penis size of conservatives relative to the average. There must be a reason why they seem so eager to drive giant gas guzzlers.

I'm sure this guy is a dirt bag and all plus what he did was horrible but I'm not sure execution in this case really made sense for tax payers. Since executions often cost three to five times more then life in prison I'm not sure they make financial sense in most cases especially since the hypothesized deterred effect cannot be actually measured in any objective way. That's why there are endless debates with both sides simply saying "Yes there is!", "No, there is not!".

Honestly, since the proposed deterrent effect can't be proved one way or another it should be a nonissue and we should make decisions mostly based on 1) Which measures protect the general population best and 2) Which measures are most cost effective. Both life in prison and execution protect the general population equally well while executions cost so much more then life in prison so I know which one we should objectively be leaning towards.

I still want to keep capital punishment legal but reserve it for the worst of the worst, like serial killers, because that will not only save us money but also prevent the accidental killing of innocent people. Speaking of killing innocent men... Did you guys hear about the innocent guy Perry had executed in Texas? It's true, DNA evidence proved the guy was innocent but Perry refused to stop the execution because he feared looking weak on crime (according to his email). Yep, his own attorney general said the guy was likely-innocent and Perry said fry him any way because he wanted to look like a manly-man. **** Perry.

Apparently, it helps the families of victims close the book and move on when the killer is dead.

"Justice", as you are using it, really means "Revenge". Which is barbaric.

Justice also deals with the victims and families of victims of crime.

I have zero problem with the DP when the crime is heinous and there is absolutely zero posibility of innocence.

Clifford Olsen found ways to torment the families of his victims up til his dying day. That day should have come much sooner.

They had a south park on this topic last season where they claimed people with tiny penises were more likely to be angry all the time, buy big trucks, and other wise try to compensate for their tiny penises. I think it is that they feel better when there is some finality.

I am not a huge proponent of 'victims rights' (MADD pisses me off regularly) but I think the families of victims of heinous crimes deserve some consideration.

Revenge should only be a consideration, in my opinion, insofar as it satisfies the population enough to avoid vigilante justice.

I am amazed that people don't think punishment exists.

If we don't believe in punishment, then we shouldn't send people to prison and shouldn't give people fines and so on. Everything should be decided based on what will rehabilitate, and not based on punishing.
