And a single terror attack in 2001 caused 2 wars and a permanent high terror alert in the US.
More servicemen have died during the course of the War on Terror than Americans died on 9/11.

Cancer kills as many Americans every two days as 9/11, but it's totally worth it to blow tons of money on a "war on terror" while not blowing tons of money on universal healthcare.

I just look forward to the day when American soldiers no longer fight wars and lose their lives on behalf of corporations.

Ben, is it bad that so many Iraqis died? Not making any judgments about the war or the motives or the alternatives or anything else; just was it a bad thing that so many Iraqis died?
                Couple things here.

One, yes it's bad. There's a time and place for everything. I think we can set aside one day to honor those who died in the terrorist attack on 9/11. I do not see how honouring them has negative repercussions on the other 364 when people are free to argue and debate.

Two, I didn't agree with the why. I believe it was possible to bring those responsible to justice without the war. That decision was made back in 2001. Now, the consequence of that decision is that the Americans are responsible for what happens in Iraq.

I think any argument about civilian casulties has to take into account the genocide which occurred under the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, as well as the benefits from a democracy. I believe that the Iraqi pepole are better off today than they were back in 2001. Thanks to the Americans. However, I don't believe it justified the war.

Same with Afghanistan. America has a moral responsibility to finish what they started. Look at South Korea today. America could have given up as they did in Vietnam. They did not, and because of it, South Korea is far better off than their cousins under Kim. The Koreans ow their well being and prosperity today to the decisions made under Truman. I believe that the same is possible in Afghanistan and Iraq. But it will take time, and Romae wasn't built in a day.

As for those who died in the war, and those who died in 9-11 it's rather remarkable that a 10 year war has had fewer casulties than most battles. Is it sad, yes, but these men and women died fighting for their country, and they will be honoured. If the cause be not good, then it does not fall on those who fought and died but rather on the leadership.

Not so long ago I would have supported action in Darfur and Burma.

Now, I think we have priorities closer to home.

Agreed if anything the London riots have taught us is that we need our military here at home to beat senseless the newly minted college twits.

The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty…we will be remembered in spite of ourselves… The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.

Now that is why Kuci junior is so eager to have lower wage working man class people die abroad.

I think it is bad obviously that people in Iraq have died but to me what is worse is the deaths we do not hear about. There are a lot of secret wars that are being waged that change the course of history that we don't even know about.

Why didn't you start your own thread, Doc? I think it's clear. You were pissed off at the thread and wanted to piss on them.
There have been 9 anniversaries of 9/11. 9/11 was the primary justification for the attack on Iraq and since the Iraqis were not involved in 9/11 nor possessed the much feared WMDs to attack America or her allies it is proper and fitting that on the anniversary of 9/11 we remember how our grief was misused to entrap us in this crime. If we don't we may be doomed to repeat the error. You wouldn't want that would you Ben?
