Ben, is it bad that so many Iraqis died? Not making any judgments about the war or the motives or the alternatives or anything else; just was it a bad thing that so many Iraqis died?
One, yes it's bad. There's a time and place for everything. I think we can set aside one day to honor those who died in the terrorist attack on 9/11. I do not see how honouring them has negative repercussions on the other 364 when people are free to argue and debate.
Two, I didn't agree with the why. I believe it was possible to bring those responsible to justice without the war. That decision was made back in 2001. Now, the consequence of that decision is that the Americans are responsible for what happens in Iraq.
I think any argument about civilian casulties has to take into account the genocide which occurred under the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq, as well as the benefits from a democracy. I believe that the Iraqi pepole are better off today than they were back in 2001. Thanks to the Americans. However, I don't believe it justified the war.
Same with Afghanistan. America has a moral responsibility to finish what they started. Look at South Korea today. America could have given up as they did in Vietnam. They did not, and because of it, South Korea is far better off than their cousins under Kim. The Koreans ow their well being and prosperity today to the decisions made under Truman. I believe that the same is possible in Afghanistan and Iraq. But it will take time, and Romae wasn't built in a day.
As for those who died in the war, and those who died in 9-11 it's rather remarkable that a 10 year war has had fewer casulties than most battles. Is it sad, yes, but these men and women died fighting for their country, and they will be honoured. If the cause be not good, then it does not fall on those who fought and died but rather on the leadership.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Why didn't you start your own thread, Doc? I think it's clear. You were pissed off at the thread and wanted to piss on them."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!
